Most disappointing products you bought

Without bashing anyone, for me it’s been the saddle hunter specific climbing platform. It works ok, but with all the pins, it’s a lot of work to set up just to have the ability to fold down. Also the tree limitations. Only being able to hunt super skinny trees wasn’t exactly what I wanted it for but it’s what I got. Looks like I’ll be climbing 90% of my time on ropes for the foreseeable future…..

hawk brand steel climbing sticks.....4 are way too heavy to carry around all the time

telescoping ladders that you pack in in several pieces and stick together and strap to tree.....i'm fully mobile now, so this never gets used

buck rattling and doe bleats seem to scare deer away on public land here

attractant scents don't seem to do anything

i have probably 300 bucks in rubber/neoprene boots that i don't wear anymore....someone needs to make a real boot and then just cover the exterior with a coating that doesn't absorb scent very well

I think we may have gone of track for this thread, it’s the most disappointing item.

Sorry I started taking the thread off topic. I just hate to see people have failures when I know a road to success for them. Next failure I can fix I’ll do it in a PM :)

EZV sight. Really wanted it to be what it purports to be. For the spectrum of shots that it makes sense for, it offers no advantage over a single pin sight.

Iron will broadheads. They’re awesome, stay sharp all the way through and animal, tough, shoot to 80 no problem. But sharpening them is a complete pain. Exodus works just fine for me and sharpens in a tenth of the time.

Elite Enkore I bought this for the ease of tunability, mine was a tuning nightmare. Spent all last summer tuning it for months and still couldn’t get it right. Next step is to bring it to the shop and make sure it wasn’t put together wrong, might need shims. And, just about every torque screw on it stripped.I give it an F as far as parts go. It’s a beautiful bow I want to love it

Hmmm, let's see.....most disappointing products.....I'll just go with most disappointing hunting-related purchases.....I tend to avoid being an 'early-adopter' with buying new products, instead letting others jump in, and then make my purchasing decisions based on their feedback and experiences.....(have avoided many of the disappointments I see on this list with that approach!)
  1. Preference points for elk in CO. Waste of $!
  2. Fixed position "Hawk" treestand. Tried to get spare parts - waste of time and $
  3. Bow sling - the fiddle factor was way too high
  4. Zeiss conquest binoculars - superb glass, kidney-bean effect and blackouts were insurmountable for my eyes
  5. XOP treestands - functioned as intended, just much heavier than advertised
  6. Having the trimmings from my first elk made into summer sausage - taste just like whitetail! (They use the same ingredients, and the sausage ends up tasting the same as whitetail sausage. I just get it turned into burger now - much better!)
  7. 20 years ago - tried a couple of bottles of scent - waste of time and $
  8. 20 years ago - rattling antlers - only resulted in negative responses from the animals where I hunt
  9. 20 years ago - Ol'Man Grand Vision climbing treestand - got me up in a tree and I learned about being mobile, weighed like 27 pounds
  10. 20 years ago - bear hunt over bait pile - arrowed a bear, not my cup of tea. (Hunt them over elk carcass or call them in now.)
  11. 20 years ago - Reading whitetail hunting magazines and how to kill mature bucks - reading those tactics and trying to compare private land, managed hunts to my land/deer situation was a total non sequitur.
  12. 20 years ago - Scentlok - SMH.
  13. 20 years ago - spending my discretionary income on some of the items listed above instead of putting that money into the stock market. (Have spent the last two decades focusing on asset allocation, net worth, and percentage of income saved/invested....it has paid off!)

I have learned a lot from this site.
I have tried a lot of things recommended on this site
I sold a lot of this stuff I bought
I now seldom buy anything new that is recommended because most of it is unnecessary. I used to buy too much impulsively. The Saddlehunter effect is real.
The most disappointing product I have bought? Eighty percent of the saddles are less comfortable than the ones I prefer. I should have waited for solid reviews from other people who tried them first. Never trust anyone who has only sat in one or two saddles

Crispi boots were like walking on broken glass. I know it is a personal thing but they were brutal for what they cost. I’ll stay with Kennetrek.
Benchmade Altitude was an absolute disappointment. Wouldn’t hold an edge and is the only knife I have sold.
Hawk Helium sticks came damaged and took 5 months to get them fixed. The quality is horrible and GSM absolutely does not care about the consumer. I’m

For me it was the wilde edge steps they do work but for me it was to much fiddle factor and time. I was very happy I could sell very quickly on this website. I bought them first year of saddle hunting like saddle hunters do when thier experimenting. I have to agree when I was younger hunting magazines are biggest waste of time and money. The guys writing those articles 90% are hunting Iowa or Kansas on private land or guided hunts. Very low pressured land in almost every situation.

Hmmm a little pack i got on amazon cant even remember the name, seemed so legit and the reviews reflected such, everything about it was a hassle. Other than that, i do so much research when i buy its legit. Caviot is to some extent all scent control is bs, only mitigation (maybe) in my mind do i do it every hunt, yes, do i think im fooling deer, not a chance.

how many miles did you put on the boots?

did you use stock insoles or something after market?

flat feet or high arch?

If only there was a way to get the BH to stop after going through deer but before it buries 15" in the dirt!

I did about 30 miles and used superfeet after the first 8 miles. I couldn’t take the pain for another step. I do have flat feet and use the sf greens in all my boots. I know boots are subjective to individuals. I’ll take the 80 mile break in on the kennetreks over one mile in the crispi.
