Outfitter Spartanforge, is anyone using it and what is your opinion?

Yeah, they all have a different version of the app too. I don’t think it’s anything wildly different than some of the options already out there but it’s not terribly expensive either. I’m going to stick around and see if we ever get a full version and what it all entails.

Honestly don't think there will ever be a full version.

Think about it, spartan says they get their data from insurance companies, electronic deer collars, drone mapping right?

Really?

So the colleges, scientists, all state departments and what have you are goin to just give spartan all their data?

Spartan stated that they can actually see realtime locations of deer, but they can't let us see it.

Horse hockey. No company would sell such data, no conservation agency would ever allow it even if it were sold to spartan. The guys at spartan are using fancy words military, UAV imagery. But no company would buy a bunch of drones, collect data, and just give it to spartan.

These guys are crooks. I'm surprised they haven't been shut down.

How is y’all’s wind indicator? I currently have OnX and have been using the free version of Spartan to compare. The wind is completely different than OnX and sometimes a full 180 degrees difference with different speeds as well. OnX seems to be the same as weather underground’s wind as well as a few other weather apps. Emailed Spartan about it but haven’t received a response yet.

I tried the Spartan forge app again. Still not there for me to dump onx. Overall resolution on the maps seems better but in the areas I hunt half the map is spring/summer map the other half is late fall/winter. I have trouble deciphering transition edges and what not. I canceled it again. Hoping they get the bugs worked out.

Yeah. I wanted to like it since it’s cheaper than OnX but it’s just not there yet. Not being able to trust the wind direction is a huge part of why I can’t adopt it yet.

I pay for OnX, Basemap, and Spartan. My go to is BaseMap for both the mapping detail and wind prediction which I have found to be super accurate for my area. I’m trying to put some real world deer activity up against the SF predictions. So far I’m just not convinced of it’s accuracy.

Anyone have any areas that aren’t updated on their maps for OnX?

I have a couple properties that I hunt that have had some major changes to them and they weren’t/still aren’t showing on OnX but are on a SF and HuntStand

I love mine and the usv pics or images are being worked on. Will hopefully be out soon.
only a few things need work. The edit a waypoint or move a waypoint needs to be available.
the screen or box you go to when typing in ur journal needs to be at top of screen.
my keyboard gets over top of it and is annoying.
i love the desktop version but for some reason not all my journals or waypoints are coming over to it.
its beta so theres gonna be bugs and im sure will be addressed.
its alot cheaper than onx to at least for now lol.
im locked into a price for buying when first launched. I think its $20 a year.
better than 100$ Onx.
i get all state coverage with onx but may just do the one state again.

I only use it for the UAV base layer. The imagery is way better than either OnX or Huntstand. I primarily use Huntstand for waypoints, tracks, etc. Huntstand (and OnX) has them beat in every feature aside from imagery.

How'd you get a desktop version????

I use SF and HuntStand. I love both for different reasons. If I had to pick one though it would probably be HuntStand if I’m honest. However there would be things about SF I would greatly miss. I know SF is a work in progress. Seems like there’s another update available about every other week. I am also locked in at an early adopter price so I will be keeping SF. I first had OnX but let my membership lapse a year + ago. It’s a nice app but I haven’t looked back once and really don’t miss it.

As far as predictions go, I recently updated to HuntStand whitetail pro. I have to say the new features and maps are very cool. I always use SF and HuntStand and consider what each say as far as predictions go. With predictions and all the other tools, I’m really happy with what I can do between the two apps. So far I have not found 1 app/place to do all things I want to do for hunting, so between the two is the sweet spot for me. And I’m still well under the $ of an OnX membership with both of these apps.

Should be able to go to spartanforge.ai and log in with your account info and then you’ll be on the desktop version.

Speaking of updates, SF just put out another one in the last day or two and there’s a 3D function now that is pretty cool! Seems to work well.

The update made it seem like I don’t have premium access now.. even though I still have membership for 5 more days. Awesome.

I just tried spartan forge, and maybe it's me, but I thought all the satellite imagery sucked. Hardly any detail at all. The resolution simply isn't there. Can't even make out buildings or anything else.

I was hoping it would be better, because Onx and now basemap, in my area, has gone all summer time aerial views....basically it appears they're just using whatever Google has available, because the imagery is the same. Older imagery is more informative to me if it's late fall/early spring...could be 10years old as far as I care, but if I can't see anything because of foliage, the apps become useless to me.

Try a different area. There is not full coverage of all lands with the uav pictures. I can tell if my garbage can is out at my house. Very nice maps. There was also just a update last week, so I had to log back in after that. Good luck this year!

If the UAV layer is available, the images are legit and I doubt you'll find better ones on another app. Images for my area were just updated for October and I've found several new trails through CRP fields I didn't know were there.

The website is up and running too. I've been waiting on mapping to be available. It is. I'll still likely keep Huntstand, but SF may be my new go-to app for hunting.

Try the lambda layer @enkriss . Swipe the compass in the lower corner. You can go to settings (gear icon in the lower right) from the lambda layer to select contours, etc.
