Saddle and Crossbow

I took my Scorpyd Deathstalker out yesterday and found that a scope with more eye relief would be helpful while shooting from a tree. My Hickory Creek Mini scope has more eye relief. It is easier to shoot from awkward positions. I might move the scope on the Scorpyd back on the rail.

I never tried my crossbow from the saddle. I found this thread and decided to give it a try. I have a target and tree I use for practice in the woods behind the house so I took it out there to try it out. I cocked it on the ground for the first shot and cocked it two more times in the tree. I didn't find it bad at all. I use a LWHC so I think because it's a platform it made it easier. I don't think I could do it from a ring of steps.

I hunt strictly crossbow, waiting on saddle, these posts are encouraging, hopefully not to awkward to make it happen.

Also worried about supporting full weight of xbow with left arm due to the elbow, how hard is it to brace up the supporting arm?
I removed the sling .....
Try using the bridge to support your arm. Keep the xbow mid body and pointed up so moving to either side in minimal.
If you took off the sling you'd better tie the xbow to yourself in case you drop it!

What about a mono pod that rests on your hip?

Excellent point. I also use a mono-pod brace. It makes a big difference in stability. And I have noticed that when using it I don't tire as easily just holding my xbow up at the ready. For me, waiting for the right moment to shoot is the hardest. Getting tired and starting to shake is the worst.

I shot at a fox a few days ago and was able to easily cock my Hickory Creek Mini vertical crossbow in the tree.

I've been running with a reverse draw crossbow and saddle for the past 2 season. Never had a problem cocking it from V style tree steps that I use as my ring/platform. The mechanics of the bow itself make it easy to pull back with the rope.

I hunt with a Tenpoint with the accupro cocking device. I use an AR sling and keep the bow resting over the bridge most of the time. One thing to be careful of is while moving the bow, it is easy to knock the cocking handle out of the holder. I put a Velcro strap around the stock and over the handle to solve the problem

If it slips it it likely to propel the xbow into your jaw.

I just had my first saddle hunt with a crossbow this evening. What I did was cock on the ground, make sure the safety was locked, tied my para-cord to the butt-stock, climbed up, then pulled up the crossbow, butt end first (after pulling up my backpack where my quiver/bolts are attached). I then loaded the crossbow and hung it on a bungee cord. I never saw anything so I never had to pick it up and shoot, but I played around with the motions. Felt awkward, but then, I don't really have a suitable platform.

How do you like the Mini ?
I like it very much. You don't have to worry about tree trunk clearance as much as a horizontal crossbow. It is light and small and can almost be shot one handed.

It actually can be shot one handed

Hunting crossbow out of a saddle is super good. You need a solution for hanging your bow, and you need to be aware of the travel of your bow when it is discharged. Just a bit of practice on both those items and you will be good to go.
