Scentlok or Sitka or First Lite?

I own lots of brands and the commensurate theory makes sense. Other factors make a difference for ppl too tho. I love much ofcmy scentlok. I love all of my sitka…so far anyway. Id say sitka is twice as good, no more than that. Tough to rate clothes that way imo.

I have Sitka and I'm fortunate to get it at a discount. Had I not had this discount I probably wouldn't have bought it initially because there is no where close to me that I can see it in person and test it out. After using the Stratus setup for 3 seasons now I can say I would pay full price. It all depends how you hunt too. Saying it's all worth 50% of full price isn't a fair statement unless you have tried all the products in various terrains/climates and critique it as to why. Their customer service is awesome, never did I wait more than 24 hours for a response to questions. Also, after ordering a bunch of gear I don't find myself complaining it's missing something or I wish it had more features, unlike one particular company people on this site constantly complain about. Their gear is well thought out. Is it 4X better than other brands? I don't know and I don't know how exactly one measures that, but I can tell you that I don't plan on buying another setup for many years.

Really comes down to price doesn’t….one way or another. I could afford Sitka simply because I don’t waste my money. I demand that a product quality be commensurate with it’s price or I won’t buy it, I don’t care how much money I have. And your statement kind of sums that up well. Scentlok is routinely on sale at pretty steep discounts and it’s quality/value IMO is decently high at that point. Sitka is 4X as expensive as Scentlok. Is the quality/value 4X that of Scentlok? I don’t know, I’ve never owned Sitka, because I have a hard time believing that it is. What’s your opinion? Is Sitka 4X better? Maybe @enkriss could help us out here.
I have all scentlok minus my base layers being black ovis and first light. I have checked out my buddies Sitka stuff (he’s the kinda guy that money is no object for) and I’ll say it’s a little better quality but I don’t think it’s 4x better quality. Regardless of quality would you want to spend 600 on a jacket to go through briars? I feel bad enough doing it with a jacket I paid 150 for

No way would I do that, I'd walk around them.

But all kidding aside I guarantee you wouldn't walk in with a $600 Sitka jacket on because you would be absolutely drenched in sweat by the time you got to the tree. You would however pack that same jacket and bc of the exceptional warmth to weight performance that jacket will pack down to nothing and be very light, which is just another reason why you paid that $600. And I have taken my Stratus set through briars with no tears. Not suggesting I'd make a habit of it, but it has been done.

Sitka is the most comfortable and highest quality hunting garments by far. But… the pattern I don’t like.

Scentlok doesn’t have the quality or fit perfected like Sitka but they are closing the gap a bit and have better patterns IMO.

Firstlite and Kuiu both suffer from sizing and fit inconsistencies even across the same piece. It’s actually quite frustrating. For example…I bought some everyday clothing from Kuiu. I loved the pair of attack pants I had. Decided to buy 3 more. They all fit different. Returned them all out of frustration.

I purchased some Sitka items this year at a steep discount. The Sitka pieces are definitely well thought out with the bow hunter in mind. Super high quality, great warmth to weight ratio and everything is silent and laid out really nicely. Even the snap buttons are silent. The camo pattern is not my favorite by far, but the function outweighs that in my opinion. The prices that I paid, (discounted but still pricey) were worth it. However I would never buy this stuff at full price. It’s high quality awesome gear but in my opinion not worth the sticker price. I could understand if it was USA made but it’s not…

First lite base layers are well worth it. No gripes. The whitetail line however was not designed with bow hunting in mind. It’s nice stuff, but I didn’t care for the pieces I had. The solitude series has a huge collar which got in the way for me and caused me to quickly sell it. I have a set of solitude bibs which I like, but don’t love. I bought them to replace my cheap bass pro cold weather bibs. The first lite bibs are no better and no worse. Both are the same weight, some quietness and same warmth. I feel I could have better spent that money somewhere else and I still may end up selling them. Same thing with their pants. I sold a set of corrugate guide pants because they did no better then the cheap $20 Costco pants. They were nicer for sure but not $100 nicer.

I keep an eye out on amazon and other places. I just picked up a pair of Sitka Mountain pants for $114 at Sportsman's Wearhouse because the size 35 and 37's were marked down. It just happens that i tried on the 36 and 38's and the 37 is going to fit nice. When it comes to the big names you can get some good prices that beat alot of other companies if you have the patience to wait for it.

Yes indeed. There have been some really good deals on quality clothing lately, but I’ve been resisting. I have clothes that are working for me and will keep running them until they no longer work well enough. Lightweight is a key feature that I’m looking for now that I’m getting that senior discount lol. Have a few other things I’m focused on now….along with maybe tagging a few other states this year and those non-res licenses aren’t cheap! Good Luck!

Meh….. this is more my style

Quality hunting clothing doesn’t have to cost a lot, but often does unless you buy used. Filson, FL, Sitka, KOM, etc. good deals used or on auction sites, insane prices new. I’m pretty surprised how FL is generally reasonable

Ran across this article on merino wool and synthetics and couldn’t find a base layer specific thread so I thought I would post it here instead of creating a whole new thread. Might be useful if you are looking at new base layers.
We’ve had a couple kids in the past few years so for better or worse I started doing some reading on fabrics. I’m gradually coming to the conclusion that I don’t want synthetics next to skin, and they’re probably contributing in a big way to micro plastics in the environment. Admittedly I’m a big hypocrite because my outer layers are pretty much all synthetics, but as for next to skin I’m tempted to stick with merino even if it’s compromising some performance. But I also don’t know what all merinos are being treated with these days. Just kinda getting sick of bathing in chemicals everywhere we go… not trying to push back on this post, just one other consideration for somebody weighing their options.

They cut out the middle man which results in lower prices but the major drawback is you may have to return random things as their sizing is a bit all over the place... though Ive heard it's gotten better... I've been impressed by their service and quality....ESPECIALLY during their sales... their price cuts were great this past holiday season
