SloMo`s DIY Saddle Hunting Platform

Ok, so I've had some custom straps made that should work ideal with these scooter platforms and other DIY platforms. I've built 2 platforms so far and finishing up another one for my daughter to use with me this weekend. I built them with a strap connected directly to the platform and cam it over. On the one side I use a Lone Wolf strap girth hitched. On the other side I used a 6" dyneema runner girth hitched and then a carabiner to connect back to the Lone Wolf strap (eliminates metal on metal). My new strap is 12" and girth hitches to the platform and then connects back to the cam buckle on the Lone Wolf or XOP style strap. This eliminates bulk, weight, and $$$. Instead of buying a dyneema runner and carabiner, just this 12" strap is needed. The hook is vinyl coated. If there's interest I'll stock them on my website - I ordered a small quantity just to test and use on my platforms. If you want one I have a few extras I'd sell for $10 each TYD. I can also put them on my website and can ship them with any orders of my DoubleSteps. Additionally, I can sell the full strap that is basically the same as Lone Wolf/XOP except it attaches/detaches at the cam buckle with this vinyl hook. They would run about $14 on my store. Let me know if there's any interest.

How well does the XOP strap secure on the vinyl coated hook? Would seem like the gap in the hook isnt wide enough

Both my finished platforms are at the hunting property where I'm headed on Saturday. One has XOP strap and the other has Lone Wolf. I'll check them out and report back. I did some testing with another cam buckle and it connects no problem. I know the XOP strap is 1.25", but I don't think there'll be any issues. The gap is 1/4". Should be able to leave the short fixed end on the XOP strap and connect right over top of it. Or you could cut it off.

Giving it a try ..since I waiting for my very first saddle and gear to show figured I would put a platform together
Close to being done just need to get some bolts ..and take the riser to work and hog out some weight .and possibly chuck up a piece in the lay to turn out a versa button

Has anyone just tried pinning this to the climbing stick? You could climb with the stick and pin on the platform when at hunting height!

I think the problem with putting it on a stick is the side loading and torquing the stick. When I cam mine down I can stand with both feet on one side without issue. Sticks aren't meant to handle side pressure, only down pressure.

Not this seat, but yes I looked at other seats and the stick would flex so bad with my hand pushing on it, that I feared trying to stand on it. Another guy on here put a tube and seat over his stick, which worked, but lots of extra weight

So I got lucky and bought one of these platforms. I'm curious to see if I can live without the room my xop has. If not, I've got 2 kids that will be of saddle age next yr.

Put two buttons or pull straps one at the top and one at the bottom also the platform will have to be around the standoffs toward the trunk to get rid of the flex

I’d think to place the platform at the bottom of the stick

So I swapped things around after the morning hunt. This strap hooks securely onto the XOP strap. I left the tag end with loop on for testing but would work without it just as well. Before and after pics.

If you don’t see any posts from me tonight it means the strap didn’t work. LOL.

Oh I see now Dan. I thought you were gonna hook a loop with that strange clip. I see you went right to the buckle.

Not worried the platform will cut the strap?
It's pretty thin there .and mine has some flashing after the casting process that would need deburd

Worked great, no problems and I survived. I've been girth hitching the other side all along without any issues. Obvious burrs would need attention, but mine were all fine. As always, just keep an eye on it.

So I just got my foot plate. Quality, lightweight, small. I don't know whether to mount it on a post or order 4 more to put on a strap for a ROS. Lol looks like it just fits the lone wolf alpha post, so 1 1/4" with no washers. I need to order some parts.

Lol, Ring of Foot Plates! They are nice and small and pack easily into or on a backpack. You can use 1 1/4" aluminum tube from onlinemetals.com or I have a few 9" posts available online too. You'll need two standoffs and XOP just got some back in stock but jacked the price up to $19.99 from 9.99. I'll have some available for sale next month but none yet. I have tried the Lone Wolf "bat wings" and I don't like them at all - only touch the tree on the center two points, not outside. Get yourself a strap and some bolts and you're all set!

I really like the 4pnt offset bracket by lw. Looks like a bat to me, but not what others call a batwing. Also not sure about the single strap setup many use. Seems that puts a huge load on the platform. My xop I use top strap and then just enough cam over to eliminate side load movement.

I've been running the single strap directly connected to the platform and its perfect. The platform is so small it works better than on the XOP or LW platforms I think. I have 3 platforms built so far and all day sits on them. I've left them out all season too, but I typically take the tension off and flip them up. The new short strap I had made allows girth hitching of both sides, won't be switching to anything else now.

Just got the platform in also. Not in a hurry so will be waiting for your standoffs and grab a post from you as well. This will complete my saddle set up.

I just built another scooter platform using a different model this time. I`ll post up a video . This last one is a bit different because the unit came with
a different mounting setup which I chose to use. It takes that platform and moves it out a couple of inches which really affects how it feels . I made this one for bigger guyz.

Wonder if its the type I had my eye on? Looked like cast 1" square arms that moved the bolt back away from the platform. Seemed like you would have to bolt or weld a second piece on the back of the stick to get the leveling bolt to hit something. Seemed like it would work.

What I'd like to find is one we can mount a bracket to, so we can get the camming action like a lonewolf.
