Team 2 BB - Bambi Blasters

Surprisingly quiet evening after such an eventful morning. Perhaps the wind swirled midday more than I realized and they spooked, or just wandered off, or just stayed out on the isolated peninsula that they went towards, or circled around the other side, or who knows but what I do know is I saw two, possibly three bucks, at least five does and a fawn and all but one of each was within bow range, which by my standards is a pretty stellar day. We just won't talk about the missed shot/broken knock situation even though it'll be burned into my memory like the time I drew back into the tree on a buck at 12 yards year one, then clipped my release with the trigger swiveled backwards on one at 20 yards year two. Hopefully the once per year trend continues, but the lack of follow up opportunities trend doesn't. Man he was a dandy, gotta stop complaining and figure out how to get back after him.

Hope you get him. Did you get a few practice shots in make sure everything is good?

Yep bow is all good, tested in the field, another broadhead in the dirt but it is what it is. 99% sure the nock broke when I released and the bow is ok. I also use an ez v sight not pins, so less fragile bits to get knocked around.

I bought a mini vertical crossbow this week in the classifieds, so when that shows up next week I'll be spending some time getting used to it at the local archery range and plan to take the compound along as well and make sure. I plan to keep hunting mostly with the bow, but it'll be fun to try the mini out and I am hopeful it will be a tool that helps my kids hunt with me earlier than waiting until they are able to draw hunting weights back. We'll see.

We're in a points lull after knocking down quite a few early deer. Been stuck at 76 for the past few updates. I missed a buck yesterday but will be trying to upgrade my 12 one way or another. Anyone still have rutcation plans?

My buddy is going to allow firearms on his property this year, I might go try to blast one there. Other than that probably just some occasional weekend huhts

Well my boy killed his first deer with a bow today. He got cold so I got him down. Found a log jam and got him down out of the wind. He was warmer. 29 degrees with wind coming off the lake. Spitting snow. So fast forward. He’s down. He’s warm. 30 minutes pass. I hear a thwack, doe bolts slaps off a tree down the hill and pills up. I whoop around and reach for my phone. It’s already ringing. He is all to pieces. I look down at him 40 yards away. I can see his hands shaking like spirit fingers. Anyway. Kid made a perfect shot from his knees on the ground. 1D37E270-3365-47F7-9062-A2BA74F53E1D.jpeg2A75480A-D22E-4E01-AE50-71C607DCF66C.jpeg7D72D058-BA6E-4B49-B62E-97ED93B08F1F.jpegFDDDB9A1-964C-4D44-BA1D-D7B32976E058.jpeg

Not really a rutcation per say....but my time in the woods is only increasing from here on. Temps are finally where I like them. I'm a big fan of late rut.

Same here. I just got back from Kentucky today. Hunt here Friday and then on Monday-Wednesday here then back to Kentucky Friday. Then life kinda gets out of control.

I try to get out as much as I can early season and late because I have a lot of family obligations from mid Nov through December, with a kids birthday close to each holiday. Hoping to get out as soon as I can and looking forward to your reports until then

In a tree ATM. Picked the wrong tree again. Made way to much noise. Seen a few does and a small buck. Does were alert. They may have been on the field when I came in. May have heard me.

Good luck! Stick one with the high FOC would ya? I'll throw a 175 gr on my xbow and we'll start the next big trend!

He slipped in the opposite way I thought they would. Heard him, saw he was good size, hit the opening and I slipped one thru his lungs. Watched him drop. About 20 mins later, another 8 pointer came pushing a doe in. I think it was the same one I had the encounter with last Monday that bedded that doe. Watch him mount her at like 30yards. But to many branches in the way. Didn't have a clear shot. He is a bigger 8. Taller tines. Double up would have been sweet. But I didn't want a tracking job. So held off pushing something.Screenshot_20221114-124109~2.png
