Team Last Chance (Team 14)

About to head out to some local public. I don’t have a buck pinpointed or even an area with good sign. But I cant kill one on the couch so I’m going to do the wander through the woods with a bow in my hand thing and hope I happen across something.
I couldn’t motivate this morning. Even thought to myself, I can’t kill one from the kitchen… but I just couldn’t get out!

I was set up around 9 am. I dont do zero dark 30 morning hunts any more. Guy I work with that kills 2 public P&Y’s every year on film for you tube told me he has 10 fold success in afternoons and evenings over mornings and doesnt waste his time on mornings. That was all I needed to hear

Had a nice 8 point bed down from me about 60 yds away. Walked out two hours later at 33 yds broadside and ate some beans. Didn’t like the shot so let him walk. Was a great sit though. My brother shot a 12 pointer the next night that probably pushes 160”. His first bow deer and saddle deer. Can’t wait to get out again soon.

Sounds like an awesome hunt, getting to watch and knowing you set up in a bucks bedding area. We get to “phone a friend” and use those 17pts your brother got us for team right?

So yesterday I walked a mile back just to listen to does blowing at the guy who set up across the drainage from me with the wrong wind. Gotta love that public.

Too bad he didnt bump them to you. I woke up today having to take sick baby to DR and go blow pay check on new washer/dryer. I looked out window to back yard and had 2 different Bucks hanging out. Only been in this house for a year on about 1.25 acres. I thought I was dreaming. I got myself the urban city limit bow tag. I guess i should have put more thought into it.

Cool

Impromptu little bored and off work on a Wednesday afternoon hunt. I forgot my bow hanger, luckily there was one in the tree when I got up here. Sounds like they are cutting timber in the next block over, maybe a curious one will get up out of these young pines and head that way after they knock off and stop by my little stand of oaks for a bite. Otherwise I’ll enjoy the sunset.EF35676B-7495-42C9-961B-52952169A130.jpeg

Nice. Any ideas why Oct 18th had incredible amount of buck activity in my backyard. Also 4 more does appeared that havent been apart of the bunch I have watched daily for weeks now. They were literally coming out of the wood works for 1 day only. The buck in pic is a screen shot of video from my kitchen window. He was chasing does. Checked cam and had several other bucks after dark I havent seen. Something about the 24 hrs on Oct 18th.

Well I drew blood on my first ever archery shot at a deer. I had a giant (for south Alabama) cow-horn spike, still in full velvet, come right in like he read the playbook. Gave me a quartering away shot at 10 yards and I think I sent the arrow straight through his opposite side butt cheek, but that's pretty much based on where the arrow ended up in the dirt because I did not see at all where I hit him. After I drew back and as I was trying to settle my pins, I bumped my upper limb on an arrow in my quiver that I had stuck on a limb above me. When he turned and looked dead at me, I swear there was an earthquake. Or maybe just a bad case of the buck fever. I let it fly with all 4 of my pins right behind the shoulder crease (so could have hit him high that close and from 10 feet up a tree) and he sort of jumped then took off like a rocket when the arrow hit and definitely didn't run like he was hit in the guts. Never heard a crash and I thought I had clean missed him until I got down and saw blood on my arrow, regular not dark red or greenish, but not pink and bubbly blood. it smelled like regular blood and nothing else. Followed his known path for about 30 yards and suspected paths another 30-50 yards and then a sort of quick grid search, no blood other than on the arrow and a tiny piece of meat at the hit location that ants devoured before dark. I feel like I could have probably torqued the bow because I don't remember even looking at my level. And I can't figure out how the arrow ended up behind him like it did. Regardless, we looked until dark thirty for blood and not a single drop, but I'm going back tomorrow to resume the search for blood/buzzards, but at this point I am not optimistic. ODQP1833a.jpg
