Tethrd is getting roasted on every hunting forum, facebook page, everywhere, why and heck wouldn’t they just post a short youtube video on how exactly they are testing these sticks, what they are looking for, and a brief explanation of the whole situation, nothing cutesy just speak the truth and put some of these fires out, damage is done already…obviously.. but if this was my business I would be communicating a lot better than this, I’m sure the video would set off another firestorm of people judging the whole process but at this point what is there to lose, I’m sure they are not legally obligated to post a video like that, but lets be honest they made a business by exploiting the awesome power of the internet..facebook..youtube..this forum.. one would think if they have any chance of moving forward after this latest debacle some more transparency is needed, but hey what do I know, I’ve only been in business 20 years and see know change in my future..

Expensive for them? Depends on contracts and root cause.
Good news is that the average attention span is short, and brand marketing with a sprinkle of spin has proven VERY effective in the past. This is but the latest storm to weather for them. Once the carbon platform is released, everyone will be hitting the F5 key waiting for stock to consume. And so it goes…

I got a small carbon fiber splinter in my hand off a broken tennis racket. I still remember the unique pain. No way am I straddling a Tethrd-made carbon fiber platform.
Besides, I'm betting that with some 7075 aluminum that is heat treated after any welding and then some judicious use of fiberglass-reinforced nylon (or similar materials) in areas that aren't structural (like areas that are just for your boot to have traction on) that you could make a platform the size of a Predator that weighs 2 lbs or less. But you might need to take a different approach (maybe design a mild arch under the platform edge, etc).
Weird that it is sand casting or jump straight to carbon (or titanium in the case of the sticks) when it doesn't seem like what aluminum can do has even been approached.
7075 is considered a non weldable aluminum that is why it isn't used in alot of applications.
I am no materials engineer but I find it hard to believe that there's not a composite out there that's better suited to this than carbon. Sure everyone thinks about carbon as light weight, but there's got to be some other plastic or urethane or resin/ester/don't have the right vocab here.... But like why not make a platform out of the urethane that steps are made from?

Cuz for a platform the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. In order to get it structurally sound you will need more material than say a cast version of the platform to be equally as strong. Even though the plastic would be lighter in a 1:1 quantity you might need a 3:1 quantity of material negating any weight saving you were trying to get.
Carbon fiber is particularly attractive because it can be made stronger than other plastics because of the fiber reinforcement. For the most part in simple terms the more fiber content the stronger the item will be.
Huh...thanks for the info. Can you think of a way to use aluminum to its fullest and get light platforms without resorting to exotic materials?
Food for thought.....1x1 square stock 6061 is $11 a foot and same dimension in the 7000 series of aluminum $32 dollars a foot.....They could use 7075 would just have to use bolts or some sort of fasteners to hold it all together. Not sure what the price difference is with it. It is a harder material so machining takes more time I think. It has twice the tensile and 1.5 times the shear of 6061 in a t6 heat treat. It is more brittle then 6061 though. So not sure if it will take flexing like 6061 does.
