I'm genuinely curious and asking in good faith.... How so?
Edit: I had this same question when Greg and Carl stated the same in their video.
Is it the climate? Whenever I hunt in a cold, wintry climate, I just lash the layers to the outside of my bag because carrying a bag large enough to hold all that bulk gets a bit ridiculous (IMO).
Or just the gear you like to pack?
Hey no offense taken on my end.
I guess from a public land hunter standpoint (especially here in WI) - I still want to remain a minimalist.
My pack is primarily used as a vehicle to carry my sticks and platform.
During a cold spell when I’m hunting - I don’t dress separate and layer up at the tree. What I go to hunt with is what I walk to my tree with, and it’s what I climb with.
I don’t want to worry about pieces of clothing strapped to my pack and possibly coming out while walking in the dark.
Do I sweat at times? I do. But if I try my best to play the wind I don’t really care.
Inside my pack I’ll keep my hand muff, knee pads, calls, some food, bow hoist rope, bow hanger, and my butchering knives.
That’s it.
The pack I posted from cabelas is like $120. I can’t imagine paying anything more than $150 for the type of hunting I do.
the tethrd pack is nice but loses its appeal as I would need to buy a bunch of extras to make what I use work - work (compression straps, molle bags, etc).
Even with that it doesn’t look very compact with all the gear attached. (My two cents).
