Tethrd Skeletors

liable for such, since consumer law does not allow a manufacturer to duck liability when it's a known design flaw, which they are very aware of given the contact from customers and some of the bent standoff youtube videos have.

if they knew the product was defective when they sold it to you, maybe already had a new standoff designed, manufactured and on a boat coming from China. Then there may be other legal issues. I think there liability insurance may not cover them if the knowingly sold a defective product!

Except literally everyone who has dealt with their customer service says that’s not how they are.

There is no war to be fought here.
I have to agree, I have dealt with their customer service a few times already and they have been great and I get a real good vibe off of everyone I have dealt with. I am confident that if I have any issues in the future they will take care of me.

That is fine. I'm not looking for a battle. I just want them to replace the defective standoffs, which so far they have declined to do, despite there being an obvious design flaw.

Of course they can always replace things at their discretion, even if the product has been modified. I was just pointing out that the legal terms mean they can decide not to at any time. Wouldn't be the first time a company did that when costs of fixing design flaws became too high and affected their bottom line.

And being a first time purchaser of Tethrd products, I don't have much experience with the company, so have nothing to base such confidence on.
Knowing that they sold me a product with an obvious design flaw is not making me very confident or giving me "good vibes" about this company at this point in time. That may change. Which direction that change takes is up to them, not me.

You have brought up some good points in your posts. I would think they will have to come up with some kind of plan to deal with the stand off issues. Having an upgraded stand off manufactured does seem to show they believe there is a problem and it’s not a rare occurrence to have the stand offs bend. I do think there could be legal liability problems if there isn’t replacements sent out or even a demand from their insurance carrier.
I’m pretty confident in my fix but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Have they put out a platform or stick yet without something like this happening and getting the same response and lack of recall on replacements (rhetorical question - easy search)? They are an awesome marketing group, but obviously, their R&D / QC is jv level on metal products, but you guys keep buying them and enabling their business model. After a 3rd product with similar issues, I blame the buyers more than the company at this point. Not just piling on T, LWCG, has done the same thing.

conspicuous consumption.

Remove the ability to show the entire world on Facebook that you’ve purchased and are using a product, and this environment disappears. But as long as the incentive to say you use a product is stronger than the incentive to build a quality product, smart money will keep funding growth ahead of the curve with that conspicuous money.

I disagree, the company representative has the right to modify the warranty when both parties are in agreement. This is what is called an authorized repair or modification, an often occurrence between manufactures and end users.
Should this modification to the "contract " have a necessary printed addendum or equivalent text beyond an email with ambivalent and un/non-discrete details/criteria to avoid confusion?

Just asking the question that I think Tethrd, might do well to address in advance of any issues.

Likely, it won't be an issue for 80 to 90% of the users but this could certainly be a headache for everyone involved..

I had never dealt with Tethrd myself. All of the information I found talked about how great their customer service was dealing with them.
This kind of reminds me of Summit stands, when they started making aluminum climbers the V bar supports were two pieces and after they were on the market over time some would crack, mine did and they replaced it with the new one piece V bar stand. I didn’t happen often and many never cracked, but there was a lag time until they decided how to deal with it. There was no foul play, chit happens.
I think at first Tethrd thought the issue with the Skeletors stand offs bending was a rare but at some point realized they had a problem and redesigned the stand offs. The timing of how they handle it from here can have a lot to do with production and inventory of the new stand offs for replacements. Replacing bent stand offs under warranty is a start but nothing short of replacing existing stand offs will solve this problem.

Hmmm…. It doesn’t look like you can order them anymore.
Wow, I just seen that, interesting. Maybe previous purchasers will be getting new stand offs. I’ve seen many posts on other forums where people have contacted Tethrd on this problem and or concerns. Maybe it would be a problem selling them with known defective stand offs at this point. I really like the sticks and hope we can get the improved stand offs on sticks we already bought.
With production over seas I would think they could be produced pretty cheap.
With the new improved stand offs these sticks would sell great.

Well I knew it was a gamble but I bought a set and received them on Wednesday. Kinda hoping the new stand offs would be on them. They were not.
We will see……..
