Well that was close (bowstring broke) round 2

One other silly question, if you are storing it strung, how are you hanging it? I ask because of the damage and fraying in almost the exact same location on the other side of the string. It makes me wonder if you’re hanging it on some sort of hanger that may have slight jagged edges. Over time from sitting against that edge and being lifted on and off of it, the string could be slightly compromised. Then it eventually breaks from the stress of repeat energy transfer
Not hung, it lays flat on a shelf

Side that broke goes on the bottom limb right? Maybe your string is rubbing up against something repeatedly during your draw stroke.
I have no clue what that could be. I just re-finished this bow, no rough spots and what else could it rub on?

New old evidence, I remember now. It broke on the top limb side about the same location. If this feels like dejavu it’s because it is!

Maybe the string got too hot? How often do y’all wax your recurve bowstrings? They didn’t feel dry overall; however, the area that broke definitely feels dry.

Looks like b50 material and it’s possible some dirt got picked up with wax and over time it was like a sanding affect
Run a cotton ball all over the bow and see if it catches and if so then some fine grit sandpaper should do it. I would make you a string but I don’t have and b50 material. You could add some phenolic to the tips to strengthen it and absorb the shock and I can make you a HP string

I wax heavily with bees wax and use my fingers and wipe with it off with paper towel then wipe again with fingers then run a string completely down and up the string and pull off excessive wax and I’m good for awhile. I try to get as much wax off the grooves

Something seems off. Are you making the strings?
Nah, bought from a guy on here that came highly recommended. This bow has only seen the shelf in my room and shots in the yard. I haven’t been brush busting with it or anything. I generally baby the thing pretty well.

Did the cotton thing no catches. I just refinished this bow so I wouldn’t expect to have catches anyway. I had plans to add string groove silencers to this bow. I think that would help too.

Any chance its the same guy who made your previous string?

Now it’s a possibility but unless the mice targeted the same location as there is a lot of wear in that area on both spots near the loops. It’s a possibility also that bow didn’t come with a Flemish back in the day but a endless string that’s why there are no string grooves so by adding string grooves it will lessen the chance of a break again. I’m starting to feel that by the constant slap of the string onto the limb cause it excessive wear so by adding the grooves I feel will be a big help regardless of who made or makes the string that’s why you see recurves with string grooves in the limbs

I’m just glad someone else shoots in the house. I made a thread about an easy way to paper tune, and all I got were comments about how dumb I am for shooting in my house.

heathens!

If I remember correctly it wasn't so much shooting in your house but, shooting blindly through paper towards your front door. Not sure about your house but nobody ever knocks before coming into mine. :)

I bought the bow used last year and the string that broke was the string the guy gave me with the bow. So the first string was an old string. This was a new one. It wasn't made by the same person.

How heavy is your arrow, and do you notice a lot of hand shock? I think I remember you having some heavy inserts but if the energy can't transfer to the arrow it'll go somewhere and potentially damage limbs or string.

2 broken strings would seem to suggest to me that the string isn't the issue.

Me also, when I read you store it on a shelf the thought of mice occurred to me. I've seen them chew a string before.
I had never seen a mouse around the house or anything growing up in Alabama until this year when my wife was cleaning out her car and found a granola bar that was half open that looked like a human size bite had been taken out of it. She asked me if I had opened it and taken one bite. I told her it was probably a mouse. We left it be for a day and it started chewing on a pair of tennis shoes she had left in the trunk to make a little nest. We ended up find the mouse. I was going to grab it but she let it get away while I was grabbing gloves. We were leaving for a trip the next day and when we left the vehicle at the airport she made a crumb trail leading out of the vehicle in hope that the mouse would leave. When we returned there was no sign of more mouse action. All that said, I recently visited my wife down in florida and brought my bow with me in a different vehicle. I didn't leave the bow in the vehicle overnight, but the drive was about 6 hours so I guess there is some possibility that a mouse could be in my car as well. I also haven't seen any sign of mice inside our house so the whole mouse thing doesn't seem super probable to me. It would be ironic though because I just watched that alone episode where the dudes bowstring gets chewed up by a mouse.
