What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

I got out and did some meaningful practice from elevation this morning early before the humidity got too bad. Late last week I set up a short (12 foot) ladder stick on a tree out back and installed a block ring of steps on a heavy ratchet strap. I'm still toying around with that block ring of steps idea. I need to get some good pressure treated 2x4's. Anyway, this serves as a quick spot to set up in and do some elevated archery practice out back. My deer target is at 30 yards. Pre season I like to do my practicing at longer ranges but for hunting I try to limit my shots inside 20. I also like to shoot from elevation as much as possible and shoot from odd angles and unknown distances. Just sort of keep things random.

My shooting was pretty good. I have been suffering the last couple of years and I think two things are contributing too that. One is soreness in my left shoulder joint and the other is shooting a longbow instinctively. Shooting a compound with sights and instinctive shooting a longbow are polar opposites and going back and forth makes it hard.

The season will be here before we know it. I plan to get out and make sure my shooting is spot on before that happens. Anyone else doing elevated shooting yet?

Dumped everything out of my ALPZ pack and worked on moving it all into my new Womens MR popup 28. The question is can I carry everything, including sticks, saddle and platform (plus coffee thermos of course) on or in the pack. Round one is done. I can, but I can tell there will be several rounds for best setup.
Last 2 years I carried my sticks in, in my hand.

Last year I was not good enough to flip from my compound to my trad bow. But I never picked up my ML or rifle. This year I am committing to my trad bow.

I helped a friend move today and it had me down near my hunting grounds, so I swung by and pulled a card out of a camera I have had out since the end of Turkey season, a month ago. I haven't looked through the card yet. I came back and immediately got a shower. I had 6 ticks crawling on me even though I had changed into my scouting clothes that are very heavily treated in permethrin. I'm not sure what was up with that. The horse flies were terrible today too. I scouted some new ground and saw 3 hen turkeys while easing around and bumped two does off beds in spots where I surmised they would be via cyber scouting. It's always nice to see deer where you guessed they will be based off a map at home. If I get something good on that camera run I'll post some pics.

The ticks are the worst this year that I have ever seen. Had at least a dozen on me a week or so ago (half on my clothes, half on my skin), and I had also done my typical permethrin treatment. It's bad. And it's causing me to do less and less work in the woods. What a shame.

Got some good doe action. It seems they are traveling through in the evening from east to west. I also got this buck's picture. They are starting to put the horns back on. This photo was from about a week ago.

I have a lot less pressure on me this summer to get out and deal with those nasty little creatures. I got out just after the season ended and did several intensive scouts before the green up, while the sign from the past season was still fresh. I also got in some good scouting during turkey season. I can't stand ticks. They were bad today.

Scouted a new area yesterday. Walking transition line and creek bottoms. Eliminated one area. Found 2 stands from the old days...2x4s hanging on the tree. I always mark those.
I have several small creek bottoms around the property. Finally located two well worn crossings and a
great pinch point that’s torn up with tracks. I think that one was created by beaver activity. Going to get the beavers a nice gift! Lol

I got my second set of Pioneer steps today for another ring of steps. I plan to have at least 2 full 2TC climbing kits for the fall. Bring on October!

Technically yesterday but I rit dyed my latest rope bag. I used less dye this time and the bag came out a lighter brown which I like better than the previous dye jobs.

I been messing around with a lot of DIY saddle designs using different materials since end of the season. Fleece, mesh, ripstop, etc. This is because I wanted to do something like the Dryad. But yesterday I put on my Recon and man.......it was still the most comfortable. So I think I'm finally done with DIY saddles, I been 'squirreled' enough and looking to solve a problem that does not exist.
