What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

I’ve had a hell of a year….lots of work changes, I’ve had 3 major deaths in the family with more on the horizon……with that being said life has gotten in the way of getting my bow tuned. Today I was finally able to get it done. As soon as I took this last shot, I took my old Velcro release off and put popped the stitching and she’s dead in the water. Ordered a new one that should be here Saturday so I can get her broadhead tuned.

A big fan so far.

I’ve only climbed the telephone pole in my backyard so it takes a little more to bite, but I’ve been very impressed. I did order the G3D SSS system, the pins are a PITA and still garbage.

My biggest thing is going to be carrying them in with my JX3. I need to figure out how to do that the easiest.

It’s been hot and muggy the last week and really bad 95+ the last 3 days, but it’s supposed to be beautiful for the next week after today(high of mid 70s). I’ll get out a bit more and test on different trees.

For everyone that grumbles about tethrd, and rightfully so for certain things, I really think they finally got these right.

Re-wrapped a lot of my gear with camo tape, sorted through my hunting clothes, separating early season from late season. Starting to do the initial descent wash for the season as well. Also treated some pants with Duranon (early version of Permethrin). Other than that, keep staring at the calendar. Less than 30 days to go.

I just cut a pole that I will instal in my garage to
A: support a loft for storing my hunting gear and
B: to practicing climbing techniques and gear on.

Eastern red cedar aka: Juniperous Virginiana
It’s about 14 feet long. It was standing dead for about 15 years and is in prime condition for this use. I’ve been wanting to do this for a few years now.IMG_5375.png

Bought 6 cheaper trail cameras. Went scouted found a couple places to put them up and didn’t hang a single one. Not bashing them or anything but I just can’t get excited about using them. Might end up in the classifieds.

Detail work on my saddle setup. Rearranging items for smoothing setups. Pack my bag, unpack it. Try to find a better way to pack it. Haha not sure I always make headway but I enjoy it.

Since I’m stuck at home with the Covid, why not try my hand at sewing at couple of things. Not my best work but it’ll do. Needs some cleaning up but it is comfortable to be in. Held me and my dog (close to 300lb) without an issue. The roll up pouch is pretty neat too. Waiting on some stuff to finish that up. All in all, it’ll do pig.

I went and walked around in a wma that I was offered a guest permit. It was my first time going there. It was pretty nice and maintained. I found trails and tracks and seen 3 or 4 deer while exploring. Then I ran into a legit skunk ape and left outta there. I seen enough to form some kinda game plan for the hunt in September.

It was still early enough so I jumped over to another wma I have a gun quota for and did some speed scout with the bike and bee lining to my points of interest. I made it into an area I've been looking at on the map and while there wasn't anything amazing as far as sign there was enough trails tracks and poo I maybe come back and hunt it. I run down the road the another area I missed a nice buck last year to look around. I ended up jumping up a nice buck less than 60 yards from where I missed the 1 last year. Is it the same buck? Probably not but it would be cool to get another shot at him.
Someone dumped a kitten at the parking area and I spent like 30 minutes gaining its trust to let me pet it and pick it up but when I set it down in the truck it freaked out...climbing off the walls and kamikaze jumped out the window

The skunk ape is a cryptid ape-like creature alleged by cryptozoologists to inhabit forests and swamps in the southeastern United States. It is commonly referred to as the Florida Bigfoot and is often compared to, synonymous with, or called the "cousin" of Bigfoot.0 Dave Shealy, a Skunk Ape researcher, has spent his entire life trying to prove the existence of the Florida Skunk Apes.
