What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Today after work, I found an archery shop loaded with saddle hunting gear. And to my surprise, they carried Specialty Archerys Verifiers & clarifiers. I used a verifier tool to find which lens that I need. Ordered a 1/4" peep with the #7 lens. Should have it by next week. They build their own one stick there which was cool. As well as custom dump pouches. Gonna grab an Aider next week as well, just for my 1st steps up the tree.

Pretty sure this is all I’ve gotta do to kill big bucks, right??

That system has really caught my eye. I'm looking forward to reading about your experience with this.

That is a game changing post - I'm guessing far too many people on here just don't know it. It's a game changer IMO. It'll be mainstream about this time next year :joycat::joycat: Granted, it ain't cheap.

I paid for a new (to me) saddle from the Classifieds here, and hung a paracord preset on a new tree in my back yard this morning so I can try out the Halfline Mobile system when it's not 107 out.
I just saw the New York Saddle Hunters video of this and it looks pretty slick. Sort of a simplified SRT/Ddrt hybrid. I'd be tempted to try it out but I come back to the same problem I had with Ddrt. I have very few trees that have load bearing limbs within 50 to 60 feet of the ground. Looking forward to a report on this system.

I tell you one thing, if I lived in a city in a tall building, I would have one of those F4's, a harness, and enough rope to get me out a window to the ground if the building had a really bad fire.

I've pretty much decided that when my C-IV wears out I'm going to replace it with something in 8mm - either Oplux or RescTec - and pair it with an F4. I'll probably use a friction hitch like @JRB's Agile instead of a hand ascender, but that's a matter of choice.

Considering how many of us are using Oplux, out of spec with Ropemans and the like, this F4 really seems positioned to have a huge impact. I wonder if Sterling knows about saddle hunters - I know it's designed for firefighters, and there are a few more of them than there are of us. Still... paint it camo or orange and silence it, charge $40 more, and they'll have trouble keeping it in stock.

I got the F4 in the mail yesterday. I already had the rope and a Kong Futura ascender. I'm going to try it out tomorrow for sure. I may play with variations too, such as a foot loop on the ascender.
One thing I am noticing as I think this through though, is that once you rappel down you will need to slide the F4 back to the top of your rope - you can't just open the side such as with a Madrock and re-attach it. Not really a labor intensive ordeal, but that will take some extra time on the ground or back at the truck.

Oh, and for what I did for saddle hunting today... Put up a couple game cams and swapped batteries and cards in another pair. I went ahead and put some presets not far from two of the cams too.

This weekend I scouted over 6+ hours on a public piece. I marked all the crops. Marked several areas that had persimmons and acorn trees producing that lead to the crops from the bedding areas. Saw a huge 10pt, 8 does, flock of turkeys with poults, & found 5 new spots off the beaten path. Heading to another spot this weekend to do the same but going to spots on a lake only reachable thru private or by boat!! Boots on the ground and boat in the water!!!

Put tape on the extra squirrel steps I picked up off classifieds last week. Didn’t stealth strip them just some renfroe bottomland hockey tape. Really takes the “tink” or of them if they happen to touch.

Also getting my JX3 out this weekend to practice shooting from the saddle.

I took advantage of a cool morning (47 F when I got out of the truck at 7:30am) to scout a new area area deep in behind a couple of beaver dams I had identified e-scouting. As I told my wife when I got back its a good news/bad news story. The good news is that I found some really good deer sign back there. The bad news is that its over a mile hike in through some thick/wet stuff and I'm quite positive I'll get turned around at least once trying to find my way out in the dark. In fact I got mildly turned around coming out this morning in the daylight. Unfortunately the sign is too good to not hunt it so I'll just have to suck it up and hope my phone doesn't die on the evenings I go back in there to hunt it. :tearsofjoy:
