What did you do today?

Some people go to support groups to feel better, I cut wood.

Nothing like being outdoors in the crisp morning air! That's when I feel the best.
Away from work, relaxing with a chainsaw in hand looking forward to the first beer of the day.

Any activity outdoors in decent weather is good.

Started a new tradition of going on an opening day hunt . 4 of us work together and live within an hour of a common public spot so we hit the woods at dark thirty and had a blast.

Hear you man and I live here. Trust me. It’s soooo worth the trip. The immersive experience is top notch
Right on. It'll surely be a trip in our future.

Used to work up in Merrifield and I still get the heebiejeebies anytime we have to pass 610. Took everything I had to ride out to Gainesville with yall.

Yesterday I went out hunting on my own for the first time. Saw a bobcat (didn't even know we had them) and almost got run over by a young doe while I was sitting on a log drinking a bit of water. It was a beautiful day down here in SC, almost caught a chill. Had a bunch of problems with my climbing setup, thinking I may have to abandon SRT except when I have presets, the throwbag is just too finicky in the woods. I guess what I learned is that things that seem quiet at the park or in your back yard sound ungodly loud in the woods.

Hunted one area in the morning that I had previously scouted, Its low lying and wet in spots but I wouldn't call it a swamp. Hy hope was to set up just southwest of a certain stream crossing. On the way in, I sank to my knee into muck, filling my boot with water. Unperturbed I continued on. When I got to the creek both sides were absolutely torn up with deer tracks, we had heavy rain 3 days before this. I tried to set up in a tree for a good 20 minutes before just setting on a log with my back against a tree and pulling a bit of brush in front of me. Didn't see any deer, just a bobcat, who never knew I was there! I was planning on going back for the evening but it has a gate and when I went back in the afternoon the gate was closed and there were about 5 firetrucks parked just down the road along one of its edges, I dunno if they were doing search and rescue or what, didn't see or smell any smoke.

When I found that gate shut, I went another 30 minutes down the road to a big state forest and scouted one corner of a huge hardwood swamp, found some old roads through the swamp that are not marked on the map and are blocked by fallen trees. lots of deer sign and lots of waterfowl hunter sign, didn't see any deer stands or anything. At the terminus of one leg of the unmarked old road I found a group of 6 or 8 very obvious deer beds, reeking of urine. I bet in moderately high water during the rut, those raised road beds would make for decent buck hunting. On the way out I sat down on a log and took a drink of water and I heard a noise behind me, it was a little doe who had just jumped one of the logs across the road, she was running full tilt straight at me, seriously thought I was about to get hit. When I turned my head I could tell she saw me and veered a little bit, passing within 6ft of me as she bounded over the log I was sitting on.

All in all a rewarding day, gonna get back out there this evening I hope, and hopefully successfully get up a tree and sit.

I used this method yesterday afternoon to climb and it worked well. I didn't see any deer but I saw a quick, woodlands hawk. It's flight was unbelievable.

Have you considered a Clipstick? https://www.rei.com/product/141882/trango-beta-stick-evo-stick-clip

I gotta say, that method still seems awfully fiddley. The pole is creakin, etc. I think I would prefer more moves of the rope with a shorter stick, personally, but I dunno what I am gonna climb with at this point to be honest.

What is your best guess at platform height in this video.....If u not careful u gonna show all utube ur nuts with that camera angle... No offense but I can't sit thru any of ur video with that camera angle

Went to Dr.
I fell in camp right on my arm.
I tripped on a te t stake of all things.

I have a torn tricep.
The tendon tore a small bone chip off the elbow.

Yes it hurt like hell. Then Severe chills for about 30 minutes.
I had to wrap up in a sleeping bag.

I been told not to be climbing trees for half the season.
Still debating on whether to have it fixed or not.
Praying for ya!!

@ThereWillBeSpuds - have you seen this cheat for SRT? Link: Placing the rope for SRT

I can climb a tree without limbs with my Electrical Conduit Pushpole Method. I can also throw a throwbag over a limb. I can climb any tree. Cost me less than $10 for the parts.

I figure first set at 5 +7 feet = 12 feet for the pole and my height with overlap. Second set +7 feet = 19 feet for tether height. Platform -5 feet = 14 feet for platform height. I used a third set yesterday for +5 more to move my tether higher to cut down on hip pinch and the force pushing me into the tree which is tough on the knees. It also gives me more rope to swing around the tree.
There is an inner lining on my shorts to prevent such an occurrence. Since I don't have a professional videographer on staff this is the extent of my videos.
Didn't you say today you are going to send your nuts to someone? :D

I'm about to head out for an afternoon hunt. I'm going to stay as close to the truck as I can. I'm getting too old for this.

I mean, for presetting that would be great, but no way am I messing with a 20ft aluminum pole during a hunt.
I have a telescoping aluminum painters pole which I tried. If it hits anything it makes a metallic clink. The Electrical Conduit barely makes a sound that could be distinguished from wood on wood.

Well its not today but it was yesterday, spent all day getting firewood down and stacked in our firewood room in the house and other areas I can find places to stash it. We love wood heat but you never think you have enough!!!
Did you take pics of my basement?
Anyway, you are always welcome to come visit my house.
