Where Do Platforms Go From Here?

I guess that begs the question: "when does a trees tand become a platform and when does a platform become a tree stand?"

For example, the TL mission weighs > 5 lbs. Several small lock-ons are now knocking on the 6lb. door (maybe less?). The Mission is excessively heavy, even for its size. If a mission-sized platform also had a minimalistic "seat" of some sort, would that fit your definition of a hybrid?
When you can climb with it instead of using sticks or what not and the adjustable height removable seat. You can do some of that with existing stuff, there just isnt anything purpose built for it currently.

Those new Hype nesting climbing sticks say their strap design eliminates kick out. At least someone tried something different to address that problem, and if it really works maybe something that can be improved on more
Marketing Hype.

Now I'm following.

Most likely. But has anyone tried it yet to confirm? Maybe they did solve that problem. I give them props for attempting something new and trying to solve a problem.
They had no other choice for a attachment method. It had to be flush so the sticks could slide into each other.
What if one attachment point was at the very top of the stick and one at the very bottom of the stick, what do you think would happen?

Hoping to stir up a good discussion. What are your thoughts about where platforms are or should go from here?

Lighter, more compact, different dimensions?

Any choice immediately brings its trade offs. You can’t eat your cake and have it too (yes, that’s the right way to say that.

I’ve read some guys lamenting over the “camming” style of platform. If so, what else is there?

My main request would simply be more ergonomic footprints or dimensions, but I hope the discussion goes deeper than that.

Jake
Maybe everyone on here can draw and dimension your perfect platform shape AND size. That way some company spies will take notice and use them....

Honestly I want more depth than the pursuit or scout. I want a predator cut in half on two posts. Problem is I guess, would be more post than platform weight. I image to make it solid, you would need a good post. So you would end up carrying in more post than platform. Or would require two straps to make it all secure enough and offset the simplicity. Not worth the effort in the end. Just carry a bigger platform..
Ooh thats an idea!...

I would like the Vader, a Predator in carbon fiber. Hunting in December in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, even wearing Steger Mukluks and chemical warmers my feet freeze. The aluminum on my platforms just sucks the heat out of my feet.

That is the main reason I jumped on a four pack of Latitude carbon sticks. Handling metallic Beast sticks is terrible for me at 0F.
We should meet up and maybe I can sell you one of my older original CF platforms...

You can but you have to contend with the result which is that it kills the temper and lowers the allowable stress substantially. Like most things, there are trade offs.
You just reharden it in an oven....

I think platform design is gonna plateau for a decade or so. Sure someone might find a way to make em a little lighter or grippier but I can't see anything truly revolutionary. At the end of the day, a platform is just a surface to put your feet on.

Not to get off topic, but I would really like to see some saddle innovation. For example, a saddle that let's you face away from the tree while sitting. Get the bridge behind you so you can sit in the same position you would in a traditional treestand.

I want to be able to sit in my saddle with my back tight to the tree sometimes to blend in with the tree a little better. Yeah, it's nice to hide behind the tree but deer don't always come from the direction you expect them to.

I also used to like resting my gun or bow sideways on my lap while I sat back in my treestand days. You didn't have to make very much movement for a stromg or weak side shot, even while sitting, just raise your weapon, square up, aim and shoot. You could do the same thing but in the comfort of a saddle if you could find a way to get the bridge behind you. Or better yet, have a 360-degree bridge, somehow.
Oh I wouldn't bet on yr first statement!

Tell me more, sounds interesting. I have serious concerns about frost nip/bite how I’m currently doing it when it gets near zero. Maybe electric socks are in my future too.

Where do they go? Nowhere.

At this point, you’ll only see small style variations to set brand A apart from brand B.

Kinda like saddles and most hunting stuff in general, only only place to go is to sell the buyer on a better lightbulb.

Much like climbing techniques, everyone has their own style and preferences and each brand will cater to that style.

I tend to agree.
The only idea that (now after starting this thread) that intrigues me is that of a platform tree stand hybrid. One that could be used to climb like a 1 stick, the platform of a platform, with an adjustable (up and down) flip down seat, that is also a reasonable weight.

But then, it’s not a platform anymore, it’s something else entirely.

It's already being built!
