Who has removed leg straps? Any regrets?

Is it fair to your family to risk your life for a deer?deer don't climb trees.most hunters shouldn't either.i risk my life to feed my family .29 years in the number 4 hardest most dangerous job in the world without an accident.not 1 stitch.i do stupid for a living

I cut the legs straps off my trophyline after 2nd time out.
I cut them off my notch before putting it to use.
Don't like them, don't need them.

His legstraps and waistbelt where loose and hedidnt hit the ground..period and I dought any one ever will.there should be a saddle paploosa contest where we hang upside down and see who can wiggle out first with no hands. Win a keg or sumpin

I would like to donate to the prize pool as well as sign up! Lol

I honest to goodness wear my legs straps. I don't see what the issue is but I also couldn't care less what anyone else does

I debated on writing this, changed my mind a few times, then said what the heck.

Safety has been discussed several times on this forum. I am not telling anyone what to do. But I feel the need to point a few things out. I am no expert but from what I know, the human body can be very resilient or very fragile. You hear stories of people that fall from heights and walk away with no or minor injuries. But there are about 70 people each year who slip in the tub and die.

I worked with a guy that had a life changing event. I will call him Bill. Bill was in great shape; he was a triathlete; he could run more miles than I could walk. Bill was in his late 30’s. On a holiday weekend about two years ago, Bill his wife and two girls went to his in-laws for a cookout and pool party. Bill dove into the pool, no Bill did not hit the bottom. He just somehow hit the water funny. His two girls had to pull him up from the bottom of the pool. Paralyzed from the neck down. No use of his arms. After two years of physical therapy, Bill still has no use of his arms. I can’t even imagine what that would be like. Won’t bore you with all the details but after a year, his wife divorced him and took the girls.

Even a short fall and hitting the tree with your head can result in a life changing event. Falling and cutting yourself on a step or stick.
My point is, why not be as safe as you can?

You cannot be too safe, kind of like having too much fun, there is no such thing.
Have a safe hunting season.

I also don't see why you would remove the straps. They don't bother me at all and I am sure they are not on the saddles because they look cool.
But to each their own,I do like extra insurance if it comes this cheap.

yeah, if you can wear a rock climbing harness at all comfortably, then a saddle is way better

i wonder if it squeezes the jewels on some folks

just keep the leg straps low and not super tight

Is that with or without leg straps?

I can wiggle out faster without leg straps

I cinch mine up tight for walking (wear the saddle from the truck) and will slightly loosen once set up and settled in a tree. If I didn't like them I'd ziptie them or something outta the way so I could still sell the saddle later

I agrea with geo.be safe.but after years of having them hang up on logs and blow down I stopped putting them on my own saddles.i just took my kids ziplining and not 1 little girl was worried about shock loading waist belts, ratings ,or caribiners they where just having fun .distractions while hunting don't work.if you can't just tie off and hunt without worries than the ground might be beter.my friend will still fall off a pack seat and hurt himself.

I haven't cut mine off but typically leave them loose so they don't get uncomfortable. Don't bother me too much unless the saddle rides up & they start to pinch..

I would direct your attention to any rope access profession and it is pretty evident that every precaution is taken to remain aloft- meaning harnesses, climbing saddles etc are used. I can't imagine a situation where an individual would climb anything without a full harness or saddle meaning one that includes rated leg straps. While individuals will do what they feel comfortable that doesn't mean they can be very incorrect in their assessment of the dangers of going aloft entail. Climbing with nothing but a belt has been done by pole climbers for years but they use some type of cinching strap in case of a gaff out but unfortunately quite a few hunting mishaps have occurred leaving people paralyzed or worse. I have a friend that until recently never used any fall restraint devices and fortunately he never had a mishap. Pretty hard to drink venison through a straw.
