Introducing the 2017 Aero Hunter Kestrel

Another question.......I ordered the 6 foot strap. Will that be sufficient? Why would I need the 12 footer?
6ft= around the tree once and thought the eye (feed loop behind tree, holding loop in left hand and tag end on the other. Feed tag end thought loop on front side of tree, pull tight) this way will create a single rope around the tree.
12ft= around the tree twice and thought the eye ( Loop in left hand, tag end in right hand, in front of tree. Take both ends behind tree and switch hands behind tree. Tag end will be in left hand, loop in the left. In front of the tree feed tag end though loop and pull tight) This way will create and x on the back of the tree

My tree strap is 4.5 ft long. I hunt small trees and go around the tree once.

Thanks,
Boswell

12ft is overkill unless you are hunting redwoods imo. A lot of rope and slot of extra bulk.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was thinking but wanted to make sure.

Familiarize yourself with everything at ground level. Get comfortable setting up that way before climbing. After that practice practice practice! It will take a while to develop your system and get used to hunting with one. It's a whole new awesome ballgame lol.

They originally recommended going around the tree twice but 6 foot wasn't long enough so they added the 12 foot option. 6 is enough for most trees if you go around once.

Two wraps equals more friction. It is safer than a single wrap. Both are accepted uses when done right.

Do they not recommend two wraps anymore and why the change?

I don't ever recall them recommending two wraps. I personally have found two wrap to be difficult to pull off: When you get that second wrap it can be hard to get the strap to come down straight enough towards where you actually want to be hanging/tied in from. This results in strap that's too far one way or the other and that's difficult to adjust because it's wrapped twice...

I used to hate the old trophyline tree strap for this reason... trying to wrap that webbing strap around the tree twice was frustrating. The rope makes it a heckuva lot easier, and I feel no less safe with one wrap. But to each their own...

Personally I haven't hunted any trees that i've needed the 12ft rope for. The higher you go up the narrower the DIA of the tree trunk. Assess the trees you're likely to be hunting out of and purchase the length that best fits your needs.

My only concern is the pouches. They seem small I've gotten so used to having my big TL pouches on my saddle it be hard to change u less used the clips
And took pouches off the and clipped them to the kestrel

Trophyline said to do 2 wraps with their strap. Or do 1 and have something under the 1 wrap to keep rope or strap from
Working down the tree and slipping I got a linemans rope and have only 1 wrap and use a tree hanger to hold My rope up and put my bow on too

Two wraps are not supposed to allow the strap to slip if you take the pressure off the tether. I wrap once and have never had a problem. Sometimes I wrap the tether above a branch

I've heard amount wrapping once but taking your knot and prusic through the eye twice helps keep it from loosening up. Anyone do that?

I remember watching boswells videos and he recommended the two wraps. I believe it was also written on the instructions w/the aerohunter.

lol instructions what are those!!!!
Yes, it was written in the original aero hunter instructions. We had a discussion on here that the 6 foot strap wasn't long enough to go around most trees twice so they began to offer a 12 foot strap. As far as I know, most people are now only going around the tree once.

Yes this will work just as well as twice around the tree. Many ways to skin a cat.

Thanks,

Actually passing your rope through the eye of your rope twice will cause less friction as it is harder for the Rope to tighten on the tree as eight is applied to it. It does hold the rope in place better when slack is on it but in the event of hanging from the Rope you are far more likely to get more friction and tightening passing the Rope through the Eye only once. Just my personal experience. If I am worried about the Rope sliding down a slick and Frozen Oak tree, I will simply screw Tee screw into the back side problem solved

I use the new tribe bags that you can purchase with the aerohunters. The large bag is actually pretty big. The smaller bag is more ideal. I place my stuff in the order i plan to use it. Which generally goes from the bottom of the bag is my tether, followed by my bridge, then my steps on top of that, and lastly my linemans belt goes on top. That way everything is in the order that i use to setup once at hunting height. All you need is a simple biner to attach to your harness. You can unclip it at the top to avoid dangling.
