How much does an aider weigh?
Depends on what aiders you're using!!The two step webbing aider I had on my one beast climbing stick was pretty heavy! My 5 sticks weight 5lbs and stand is 6lbs!!

I was just thinking maybe an aider might weigh less than 1lb and you could ditch a stick and get the same height or possibly a bit more, for less weight.

I own the 3 step from BWMG but haven’t weighed it, but to me it’s not just the weight but the stability on the climb. I would rather carry an extra 1lb stick than do the aider dance.

Fair enough. My personal setup emphasises function over weight in certain gear selections as well. Can't overprioritize safety, imo, so I understand the thought process.

Have u ever tried any of the one sticks? I’m just curious. I tend to lean towards your thought process of less sticks with aiders. Definitely not hating on the guys that carry 5 or so one pound sticks!

I can carry 5 one sticks that are lighter than 2 custom gear sticks with cable aiders not to mention the Tethrd sticks have a better attachment method and their own integrated stacking system…

Never tried one.

With the .5, flat packing is at the top of my preferences and why I like LWCG singles/ Shikars. I think it's a better weight distribution for carrying to and from, where imo felt weight matters most.

I also don't see any perceptible weight advantage to climbing with 4 lighter one sticks over 2 heavier sticks with cable aiders (assuming 5 and 3 total sticks, respectively).

I think @TK161BOONER and @enkriss have posted nice .5 setups with their ONE sticks, and those have some advantages. For example, quick unobstructed access to the sticks upon arrival to one's tree of choice, with how @TK161BOONER is set up. And inherently quick fastening with the cleat system is a benefit of that gear choice.

Again, never having tried the ONE sticks, I can only speculate about aider use with them. But I would personally gravitate towards an aider at least for the bottom stick.

Mathematically, as for weight vs height, advantage Tethrd. My 3 LWCG 20" sticks with 20" cable aiders are over 6lbs. Given even spacing thats 15feet. 6 Tethrd ONE sticks are slightly lighter, and given even spacing, get you 17 feet.

But that's just math. A multi step aider (instead of cable aider) off the bottom stick can equalize the numbers. And lets face it, 6 ONE sticks =$350 x 2=$700. That math isn't as favorable for them.

Yeah, thats not true unless you're talking 3 step sticks.

Add 7.5oz for each cam strap. 5 lbs…

Why would he use cam straps and amsteel daisy chains? That wouldn’t make any sense.

Also...

And the buckles can be removed for buckle-less method, which you know.

I wonder how he gets the stand up the tree with no straps on it. Taking it up in that pack doesn't seem likely.

It’s called a sales pitch to the whitetail market he is trying to break into. Did you see the sticks flopping around? I hear they have 4 whitetail packs coming out this year.

Or he just uses a pull up rope like I do.
