weight ratings of sticks n platforms

My son is a 6'3" weight lifter who started saddle hunting this year. He weighs 275 and is wondering if he is close to the ratings of any of his equipment. We both use Helium sticks and Ridge Runner platforms. Is there any equipment on the market rated at or under 300 lbs? Any saddle hunters...

Friction hitch alternatives for Oplux 8mm

I built two tethers and two LB's for my son and I with 8mm Oplux and 6mm Sterling TRC for friction hitches. Unfortunately I mindlessly cut the TRC wrong, as a result I need another 3' of 6mm for one more distel hitch. Opening day is in Northern CA is Saturday which is not enough time to get...

Using a rock climbing harness for backup with a Sitdrag

As backup I attach the center loop on my RCH to my tether with a second distel hitch/carabiner below the carabiner attached to my bridge. I have read some go without a harness, relying solely on the Sitdrag without backup. Thoughts on that?

Will this prusik tender work well with a distel hitch?

I know of the 90 degree Shizl and also the 90 degree 3D printed aiders for the Distel. I thought I saw someone using this type tender (pictured below) with the Distel. Can anyone comment on how well it would work with the Distel hitch? Thanks!

Did I tie this figure 8 knot correctly?

Have some new 8mm Oplux from Dano and tied a figure 8 knot for the first time. The instructional video I used says all the strands should be parallel. They are on one side but when I flip the knot over it does not look 100% correct to me. Did I make a mistake with this knot? I gotta get...

    Sit Drag without RCH

I am new to the Saddle Game and am loving it. Lots of fun and I'm excited about the obvious advantages it brings to hunting effectiveness. My setup consists of a nicely modified Sit Drag, RCH , 22" Heliums with 1/8" Amsteel Daisy Chain and Ridge Runner platform. I use a single 44" aider to...

Best strap solution for Ridge Runner?

UPS brought my new ridgerunner last night and I want to try it out today. I was a bit surprised it came without a strap. I have read amsteel daisy chain or Versa strap are options. Would a regular buckle strap like the type that comes with helium sticks work ok? If you own a ridge runner I...

    Taking the Helium Mod's further

I got 6 Heliums a couple of days ago and cut 4 of them down to 22" per G2's instructions. Before installing the suction cups and posts I notice the only thing keeping the sticks from stacking cleanly was the nylock nuts on the U brackets so I eliminated them by installing M8 x 1.25 Helicoils...

    Camo clothing in the saddle

Do you ever hunt from a saddle without camo? Asking because my camo gear is pretty warm so I'm considering not using it during early season hunting.

I have access to this rope which is made for and marketed to boat racers but the specs look like it may work find for a tether and linemans belt. The 7/16" rope has an average tensile strength of 9,500 lbs. Am I missing anything here? SAMSON ROPE MLX Innegra™-S/Dyneema® Blended Core...

Suggestions for a retractable lanyard to use for rangefinder

I would like to hang my rangefinder with a retractable lanyard. I see one on Amazon called Boomerang Tool Company Hunting Gear Tether. Is this a good choice or is there something better out there? Medium or Extreme Duty? Thanks...

What are the minimum and preferred weight ratings for a bridge?

I'm asking because I was thinking of using 1" tubular webbing which seems fairly popular but all I have found is rated under 4000 lbs.

How does this Rock Climbing Harness look?

I kind of like what I see here but I have no experience base to make an effective evaluation. What about the metal ring in the center where the carabiner would attach? Good or bad? 660 lb weight rating and it's only $34 on amazon...

    Newbies need some advice

My son and I are excited about acquiring equipment to get set up for saddle hunting but we don't know anyone that hunts from a saddle so we have no mentors. Economic challenges will prevent us from buying top of the line to start so economizing has to be the rule of the day. I am considering...

I'm excited to get started with this new endeavor....I learned a long time ago how effective deer hunting from trees was so saddle hunting makes SO much sense. The only thing I know is what I have read on this site and from on line videos in recent weeks but I plan on learning lots more...
