2022 Fishing Thread

I have to google the albright knot every year since I switched mostly to braid. Ok maybe not anymore but I did a good few years.

Yeah I was just throwing a number out there, but let's list it:

1) Improved clinch - almost every terminal knot. If you overthink this one, god bless you.

2) Snell (is that really a knot?)

3) Dropshot hooks (no idea what its properly called)

4) Overhand/figure 8 for loops

5) Albright (braid to leader)

6) Uni for rare mono to mono

7) Rapala (I have to google when I am missing a split ring)
I do the same thing with Albright when my two braid setups need new leaders after a couple years.

I mostly use Uni knots for flouro setups which are 80% of my rigs, and also use it on a couple mono topwater setups.

Palomar on braid with no leader.

Haven't had a need so far for anything but these.

If not using an artificial lure I'm very basic.....double chicken rig on the bottom, triple in the surf, or slipfloat so I guess the sliding bobber stopper knot is another knot I use but honestly I just buy the pre tied knot on a straw most of the time....live shrimp hooked thru the horn with a kahle hook or finger mullet on a circle hook. I keep a little 5ft cast net in the fishing stuff and try to catch bait whenever possible.

The St John's river is a great place to fish...u can literally catch anything. Tides and rains control the salt...so at high tide u can catch reds trout and mangrove snapper and then catch largemouth, crappie, and bream off the same dock whenever the tide turns

My list:
1. Albright - mono to braid
2. Improved clinch - almost every mono terminal connection
3. Palomar - braid terminal concection
4. Trilene - light line terminal connection for steelhead .... I think it is just a little stronger than an IC
5. Overhand - stainless wire terminal connection
6. Uni knot - mono to mono and mono to fireline ice ..... deep water perch setup
7. Snell - meat rigs and salmon flys
8. Double overhand surgeons - fly leader loop, perch rigs and paddle fly loop ... figure 8 would work too
9. Haywire twist - copper to mono or braid
10. Willis knot - lead core to everything
11. Egg loop knot - fishing skein under a bobber
12. Arbor knot - line to reel

I forgot about the Rapala knot and bobber stop knot. Have used them both before but not recently. I still have to Google the egg loop knot every year. Only use it for short period in the fall when the kings are in the river.

I was first mate on 2 different sportfishing boats. I can promise the Albright WILL slip/break on a big fish for light braid to mono/flouro. We always use uni to uni or FG knot when we're fishing for sails or tarpon. It's not worth the time saved when you lose the fish that cost you an opportunity to sell a mount. Yellowtails or something like that it doesn't matter.

2022 hasn’t been the greatest for me. I haven’t had much time to fish trying to get the home project list back down to something readable in a night.

1 Improved clinch
2 uni
3 loop knot
4 egg loop
5 polamar when I have leader to waste
6 uni to uni
7 no-knot clips when I am fishing with jigs for anything up to and including walleye.

Caught a decent chunk bass on lunch break yesterday....I haven't had a chance to get out on the river since winter but we'll be getting out there really soon.. Pompano are on the beach right now so they take precedence
Where abouts are ya? We're down in Melbourne Beach for a week and I'm covered up in seaweed. Can't fish it...

I’ve only caught one Brook this spring, but it was a nice one.

I leave a hole after I catch a fish and go find another somewhere. That Brook was sandwiched between a Brown and a Rainbow in three consecutive holes, all within sight of each other. All three were nice fish.

My kids caught some rainbows the other morning. Brought them home and showed them how to clean them and cook them. It’s was a good morning and lunch.
