It cost extra to machine the angle would be my guess. Every tree bracket I’ve ever encountered worked better with an angle or slightly rounding the bottom side of the teeth of the bracket. It allows the stick or stand to slide down when weight is applied and it gets much tighter that way. No need really to do the top.If you go back and look at pics of the beast stand from years ago, he was using the same antler bracket then as he is now( he did use a LW batwing in the very beginning). I assume there's a reason he didn't put an angle on it.
