Friction Hitches

@Brocky on the adjustable bend I had to add another wrap because it wouldnt hold however overall I really like this one. It tends pretty decent on its own and holds nicely without biting into the rope too much for releasing purposes

That hitch just had wraps added to the original bend, a feature of it as a bend is each end is tied to the other rope, and kept apart. If there is a shock load the two knots coming together absorb some of the load.

Some loop hitches I recently came up with, number of wraps needed will vary. There are two that are same, didn’t catch until after taking picture. The blue dot is the end of the loop opposite the eye.

This is awesome. This forum would be a vastly different place without your contributions.

The one on the top row, 2nd from the right... that's the one I posted a photo about on your thread asking if you knew of it. I asked you and everyone else in my circle of knot nerds and nobody knew it had been published. I put up a video yesterday of it, calling it the Agile Hitch.

Oops to me now, sorry I missed it.

Hey, I just found this thread and am processing all of the great information, but I'm confused - isn't Brocky's hitch (2nd from the right, as John RB pointed out) the same as John RB's that he's naming the Agile hitch?

It's the same hitch. The only real difference is the addition of wraps which is a detailed, and the addition of the Carabiner which helps it from getting jammed and makes it easy to move. If you scroll up to Jan 30, post 239 here in this thread is the first place I posted it. After that, while also checking with other sources, I kept testing it and published my YouTube just the day before Brocky posted his AWESOME library. Screenshot of that post below. It's so simple that i am going to be surprised if it's not published somewhere. So if anyone is aware that it had been published with a name prior to Jan 30, pls let me know. Thx.

@Brocky, so I was in a conversation with an arborist on Facebook yesterday (who was an expert on everything) and on the topic of friction hitches, he posted this photo ... and when I looked closely at the footer text, I see he obviously got from you 3 years ago!

It’s the same hitch, I “discovered” it before John, but didn’t name it, Agile sounds better than just the number, which I would use.

Brocky-
Would there be a way or place to post all of your friction hitch drawings individually?
Your drawings are the best and clearest I have ever seen, and are very easy to follow.
The blue dot really sets them apart.
Thanks.
No there isn’t, maybe some day. I just recently completed the “finished” drawings for double eye frition hitches, the loop hitches are just preliminary drawings and a little rough.

Was able to make the Prusik more user friendly by adding some weaves under it, breaks easily under load, and it self tends. Placing the stopper/bend above the bottom weave helps to shorten it some.

Brocky, here's the photo I was referring to. For some reason, the site couldn't accept attachments last night.

I had an idea for the 'toboggan'.

The top wraps can get pretty dang tight on a lot of hitches and I thought about trying this...

I haven't tested it under load yet but it might work pretty good?

Lol … I need to turn off notifications… sitting at dinner and left the phone on the table as I went to grab something… young daughter asks at the table … daddy l”what is friction hitching” … a confused glare from the wife followed ..

"No phones at the table!!!!!":laughing::laughing::laughing:

Does it grab reliably, I’ve never had much luck doing something similar while exploring new hitches.

Finally found, or I should say @Burk did, a hitch that works great with HollowBloc, takes 7-8 wraps and a ring.

Adding a short piece of cover helps with the “ring” when making a non metallic Sticht. Keeps it rounder and creates more of a bend in the rope.

Ok, so I had some time to try out my bright idea...
It doesn't really work. :confused2:

I did screw around for close to an hour with the 'toboggan' and about all I came up with is - UNLESS I only had it under my top 1 or 2 wraps, it wasn't beneficial to have it in the mix at all.
When I had it under more than a couple wraps and it wouldn't catch the mainline good enough to hold me up...

When only at the very top of the hitch it worked OK 'cause it gave a little extra sumthin' to grab at the top of the hitch other than the normal, nasty wraps dug into the rope.
If I had it under any more wraps than 2, it would either - not grab or - make the hitch tougher to tend.

Atleast I got out and gave it a whirl.

If you don't try it for yourself,,,, just ask somebody here... hahahaha
