Nice!!! Looks good man!

What makes the EWO sticks stronger? Different material? Design?

I would rather have an EWO stick over carbon stick because I can safely add a cam cleat. Also I expect no warning if a carbon stick failed. With an EWO stick if it ever failed I expect some warning.

What cam cleat to get?

I don't know that it matters, but the one I see mentioned most often is the Harken 150, they have several models (standard and micro), get the one that is sized for your weight and line. Also see the ronstan mentioned a good bit.

On the low end, I've seen people recommend the Nautos Cleat on ebay, $10-$15. Just get the one rated for your weight and line. And any marine grade cam cleat is most likely fine, if you're not sure type the name or model number into the saddlehunter search bar and see if there are any results.

Has anybody looked into the timber ninja sticks ? they are made of carbon fiber.

I was thing about buying them. Wish they were a touch lighter but they are still the lightest on the market. They have polymer steps. They tested them to like 600lbs. The step twisted to hell but returned to shape which was pretty interesting.

I almost ordered them but my hang up with them is the short standoff and not much room between step and tree. If I can’t get the ball of my foot on the step comfortably I won’t buy them. I have learned my lesson over the years.

The cam cleat I’m seeing is the harken 150 with a working load of 300lbs. That makes me uncomfortable...even though I’m 190 I just feel uncomfortable with being so close to that load. I just got the EWO stick that I’d like to have the clam cleat on but I’m not so sure.

Lots of cam cleats on the market and discussed on the forums, I would bet there are some that are better than that. Just do some searching and research. I think some of the guys specifically talked about weight and their concerns. Lots of good topics on the matter. One of the guys was 250 and mentioned using a Ronstan large just to be on the safe side.

Here are a few threads:

The way the load is distributed throughout different components (rope touching tree, standoffs, steps, cleat) ...i think 300 is fine. if you're climbing safely with minimal slack in your tether at all times and a LB, i dont see this being a concern for me. I just had a kick out last wednesday and it was no big deal.

They are an excellent stick. The standoffs are awesome. And best of all they are available today.

Do you know the distance on the stand-off? How much toe space off tree?

Beast Sticks all the way. I have/had both. I love Eastern Outdoors stuff but their sticks are not as good as the beast sticks. Noise, packability and stability in the tree are all the reasons why I switched and bought beast sticks.

I like the EWO way better than the beast sticks. Got an inch+ more step to tree room and they don’t bend.

Is it possible to build a diy ewo stick that stacks inline? If it can be done I think they would be perfect. For guys that use multiple sticks, beast sticks are hard to beat because of the inline stacking.

Speaking of high end sticks. I am pretty sure what I am about to do is illegal in all fifty states and most Canadian provinces.

Was that just the light weight tubing ? If it was the complete stick your nuts.

I could not figure out a way to make the EWO sticks to stack inline. That’s why I bought the beast sticks and you wouldn’t think something that simple would make a big difference but believe me it does.
