My solution for carrying wild edge steps

What thickness of sheet did you use? Never looked into kydex before, google highlighted many options. Assuming a few 12x12" sheets would work for this?

I used 12x12 sheets at .080" thickness. If you go with that size you should be able to make a holster that can easily hold 5 steps like mine. If you need more I'd go bigger

Can you use a hair dryer? Jw I don’t have a heating gun but my other half has a really good hair dryer not sure how hot a heat gun is compared to it though?

I don't think a blow dryer would work. If it does it would probably take a long time. You have to heat kydex to 350 degrees to shape it

So I’m ordering the stuff to make this and I’m trying to figure out if the magnets you used were round or bars? The highest pull force in the round I can find is 17lbs then it goes to 300lbs. I can find the bars in 36lb though just trying to make sure before I order. Thanks sorry for the questions but I really like this and think it will work great for me.

Not bars they are disks

Remember, if your going with the magnets I used you'll need about 2 magnets per step to keep the step from sliding out of reach on its own. When I used 3 it would hold but had a very weak grip. Then I just decided to fill the back of the holster up with them and it came out to 10 and you saw in the video how well they held. I can jump up and down and they don't move at all but with an easy directional pull downward and it slides right out.

Yea I ordered 10pk everything should he here Sunday and it will be raining so I’ll give it a try then. I am going to play with how it goes on the pack though maybe molly loops that tighten down. I use two different packs and want to be able to switch it depending on where I’m hunting. I have a bigger pack that expands and I can carry out a quartered deer for the deep walks. Then I have a small pack like yours that I use for shorter distances when I can just walk back and get my cart or the bigger bag to go back in and recover the deer. Then again if I get it to work right I’ll just order another pack of magnets and build two one for each pack. We will see how the build goes on Sunday.

So as I am building this I am looking at it is there a reason you turned the holder so the slide in from the bottom? I can see how getting them in and out would be a little easier but I dummied the holder on the opposite way and it’s not hard to get them in or out and I don’t have to worry at all with them falling out as I’m walking to and from the stand. With doing it this way I can also put three in there or seven and they are rock solid. When I attached it the other way if I jumped up and down my steps would slide a little down with for of five jumps they would start to fall out. Now I don’t have the piece on that goes between the step in the middle but seems like I don’t need it if I leave it upside down. Just wondering what your thoughts are and why you did it that way before I make it permanent to the bag you might have thought about something I didn’t. Thanks again this idea is a gold mine in my eyes for using these steps!

Mine is mounted upside down for ease of use. As you saw in the video it's easy to get them out and put them back in

Legit, this looks very simple in this manner. Add a couple magnets jsut to secure them in more and boom! Rock solid.

For those that are interested, I post a how to video on my channel that explains how to make the holster. Nothing special, I had to throw it together real quick after work the other day but it hits all the key points. Let me know if you have any questions.

So basically all I did to make this is use a heat gun, laid the steps on a sheet of kydex, and shape it by hand little by little. After I had the triangle shape and it cradled the steps well, I took another piece of kydex and shaped it to fit the inside. After all that I trimmed away what wasn't needed and attached the step retainer piece on the front with Chicago screws. Then I drilled two holes at the bottom and one at the top for attachment points to the bag. On the bag, I used a fabric rivet tool to make the attachment holes and used Chicago screws to mount it to the bag. Rivets would also work fine. After everything lined up I took it off and super glued 10, 36lb pulling force rare earth magnets to the back of the holster and covered everything with stealth strips. The reason you need that many magnets is because the steps could slide out of reach of the magnets when I only used a few. With 10 they don't move at all until I want to remove them. Then I reattached them and it was done. I've been using this for a while now and it's held up fine and will last a really long time.
Is it just me or does anybody else have problems opening the pics?

Not sure why the pics aren't showing, these are the first ones I'm seeing that they aren't working. Any chance you could post them again?
