Ordered a Dryad Drey Yesterday!

You can try a vest/suspender combo instead of fanny pack. Keep everything in pockets high. I'm actually thinking about using my military pants with the large knee pockets, putting my rappel rope in that. have not try walking distance but it would make it very streamline when using rappel line as 1 sticking.

Honestly if it’s warm I just wear it so it’s cover as little of my body as possible. Don’t have to have it deployed any more than a typical saddle. As a matter of fact you can make it even smaller of you’d like

Thanks. I should have my Dryad this week. It's in the 90's so I can give this a try.

I want to see and hear more about that DIY version you posted. Like close up pictures and descriptions of the knots and adjustable bridge - looks awesome and for the price could be a fun DIY.

Here you go.. I made a 1 minute video for you. This is as basic as you can get lol. I’m enjoying this thing immensely. I didn’t explain the bridge, there are other videos for that.

Let me know what you think if you try it out.

Got to practice some more out of the Dryad. I have been using different climb methods and all work great. In reference to SRT the only issue is lengthening the bridge once I’m at height. The prusik knot on both sides are locked up pretty tight! Once on my ring of steps I need to use my linesman belt so I can use two hands to loosen the knots in order to lengthen the bridge. Not sure if webbing like AH would work better or traditional rope bridges. Not sure what the best answer is. Other than that-I love this thing!

On the new dryad there is only one prussic on the bridge. If you call Dane he will probably let you send it in and fix that for you.

Mine is being used as an add on to an existing saddle and I like the Drey more every time I sit in it. Infinite comfort adjustments like nothing else.

I think my prusik had 4 wraps when I got it and yeah it was super tough to release. I backed it down to only three wraps and it still holds my 200 pounds without slipping but is way easier to break.
 
I got my Dryad retro fit kit the other day and installed it on my Recon. When I first sat in it, I was not very comfortable, then I lowered my tether so the bottom of my carabiner was about 3” to 4” below my collar bone. At that tether height my legs in the sitting position were parallel to the ground, just like the picture of rugger7622. The comfort increased to almost perfection. I use a ROS and moving around the tree at that tether height worked great, no need to extend the tether.

The attachment to the Recon worked, but if you own a Recon, you know that two panel saddles have some fiddle factor. Attaching the Dryad, increased the fiddle factor. This is not the fault of the Dryad; it is just a Recon thing. I then attached the Dryad to an old waist belt and just sat in the Dryad.

I liked it so much, that I ordered the belt with linesman loops and leg straps from Dryad. I wanted the leg straps to be load bearing. I talked to Dane at Dyad and he said he had two options for load bearing leg straps, using cobra buckles or heavy duty sliders, like the ones for EWO. I opted for the sliders, no metal to metal, lighter weight and lower cost.

The other reason for wanting the Dryad system, is that I am changing my climbing method this season and I need to be able to attaché two pouches to my waist belt, each one weighs about 1.5 Lbs. That does not work well on a Recon. I think it will work great on a Dryad.

Good choice. I think the Dryad is at its best by itself. No need for another saddle under it. Glad you like the saddle. I love mine

I don’t deploy the hammock to climb. Works just like a rock climbing harness and I have no issues one sticking. Tomorrow I’m going to climb a bunch of different trees to try some things but so far I have no reason to think my opinion will change.
