Truth, and thanks for the patience reminder. Sometimes, particularly when I can spend countless hours researching online to learn all the theoretical knowledge I can, I expect to be able to do everything quickly and easily, this new hobby/food source has been a good reminder of humility and patience. Similar to woodworking. Doesn't matter how many dovetail videos I watch it's still pretty dang hard until I practice a bunch and get the muscle memory back.

On a somewhat related note, I have been debating buying a PA tag because there's one day (Saturday the 28th) that I could get out and hunt while visiting my parents up in the Poconos, they are on 12 acres on a riverbend and have deer walking through pretty regularly, nothing huge but mix of bucks and does usually so literally just going outside and I'm at the "hunting grounds". It's about 130 bucks for an out of state tag and "wastes" a day of my family vacation. I ate tag soup there (and in my home state) last year. We shall see, I'll try to fit the bow in the car either way. Doubt I'd make the drive up later in the season but who knows.

Made myself a 40'ish amsteel pull down rope today, it's overkill but I have a bunch of 7/64 and am tired of the stretch Paracord has and frustrated with how much noise the Allen hoist makes so I'm going to give it a try as bull rope and pulldown rope and leave the two offenders at home.

That’s why I started hunting out of state 3 years ago just to get more out of my season. Our rut timing in MS is essentially a month or so behind most of the country, so it won’t start getting good around here till the first week in December through the end of the year. So I’ve started taking a week long trip in November where other states rut is in full swing since there’s not a whole lot going on in MS at that time. I know not everyone has the means to do that, but it’s normally added an extra deer or two in the freezer and you’d be surprised how much you learn in woods you’re not familiar with.

For u guys still getting after it keep grinding.. I know sometimes it begins to become a major suck fest but it can all turn around in a blink of an eye. I’m rooting for you to kill a slammer…

I got my head back today. 130-1/4 gross

Going to take wife out this weekend and try and get her on one, as long as it’s not too cold… I still have a few doe tags left in my pocket. I moved a ladder stand yesterday for my old man (man that sucks) for gun season… I haven’t sat with him since I was about 12 so I plan to hang behind him in the saddle opening morning. My wife will be out for gun a couple days as well.

That euro turned out good! Goodluck to you and the family the rest of the season.

My Thursday is not going so well, although I'm not surprised with a full moon and temps headed to the 70s and me not knowing what I'm doing. Hiked in in the dark a ways and climbed a tree around where I've seen deer in the past, nothing happening there, so I got out of the tree around 10:30 and have been walking around scouting since but haven't seen much of anything fresh. Of course I bumped two deer in the residential safety zone on the way in, but just finished a big loop skirting the edge of the hunting area and did not see them or any sign made by them. Currently having a lunch snack on a fallen log and debating hiking some more vs calling it a day and getting stuff done at home.

1:30 pm edit I climbed a different tree closer to the car. Still no great sign but I'm sitting in a good spot for the wind at the intersection of two well used trails. I don't expect to see anything because of the lack of sign, but calling it an observation sit. I was tired of walking, probably put 6 miles or so in today and have at least one left to get back to the car. wanted to hang out in the woods, at least there's a nice view and a nice breeze on this weirdly warm day.

holy moly gents (i think we're an all male team?, apologies if that's wrong) you're killing it! literally (and for the contest). somehow i screwed up my upper back/neck muscles yesterday so can't turn my head/ am generally useless, so... looks like going out tomorrow is not happening, but i WILL be getting some dang points on the board and more deer in the freezer before season runs out (end of january)

Hate to hear that. Hope you recover pretty soon and are able to get back after it!

Hope for a quick recovery or a good chiropractor. I've got a chronically back neck/back and my biggest fear is my neck locking up or back going out just before something important I want to do.

Wow guys I blinked and y’all slayed some good ones. A group of us are helpful mag an elderly lady with some yard work in the morning but I’m going to get about an hour and a half in the stand before hand. This guys been sneaking through right at daylight a few times this week.
Who knows maybe tomorrow things will come together.

It if a chitshow for me this morning. Turns out the back side of the property is way more swampy than the front. Wore the wrong boots to deal with that, and despite pushing a good bit in, I came up 450 yards short of the hardwoods. Swamp just got too deep for my liking this morning. I backed up and am sitting on the swamp edge with the wind in my face. Not much confidence in this setup, but we will see.

Next time, waders are necessary.

Did some digging around and I have powder, caps and (2) bullets left for my Hawkens. Depending on what's going on with the kids, I'm tempted to try for the trifecta: Archery, gun and muzzleloader in a single season.

Those Hawkens sure are fun to shoot though. That’d be the cap on a helluva season for you!

Do it!

I got some drywall mudding done today, back/shoulder feels better when I'm moving, we shall see how much I stiffen back up tonight, but feeling good about getting back in the saddle soon. Next saturday after Thanksgiving up in PA if I buy a tag, or the weekend after back home in MD.

Youth gun season here this weekend… our older kids have each shot deer but not interested in it much anymore… My little mini me wanted to go so we grabbed a gun and some seat cushions and had a fun but loud hunt… Her first gun hunt… 0 deer sightings lol.

Weekend wx hasn’t posted yet but both kids say I need to try for the trifecta. Looks like there’s a distinct possibility for a 3rd hunt.

Gonna be mild around me. Check out muzzle-loaders.com if you need powder, balls, primers. They have what I need anyhow, and I can’t find it anywhere else.

To that end, Track of the Wolf isn’t too far away. It’s looking mild as well so there’s a distinct possibility.
