Team 2 Thread

Great buck Wirrex!

I saw a forky this morning. Pretty sure he was one of the bucks I saw on Sunday as well. He stayed in the thick stuff and didn’t get closer than 30 yards, but my little shift from Sunday had me in the game at least. This is an archery only property, so not sure when I’ll be back, but having seen bucks two sits in a row has me pretty excited.

My plan for this and next weekend is buck-only hunt. I may or may not saddle hunt saturday morning understanding no team points if I get one saturday morning. The remainders of the hunts will be in a tree.

I don’t post a whole lot but lurk plenty.
Every year, in my group of hunting friends, we go somewhere out of state and hunt public. Sometimes we go together like last year, then there’s this year, scattered to the wind!
I decided to goto Indiana, some are in Kansas, others in Kentucky. I’ve been instate since Sunday tent camping at a state park(electricity/hot shower) and let me tell ya…I HATE THE COLD!! It flat beats me down. The older I get the more of a sissy I am in the cold.
So I took the Outback and my ebike and both worked out great except I gotta get me a bike cart of some kind.
Long story short I found some deer and they were starting to school like bass up here. This morning one was dumb enough to get in bow range! Only went 100 yards…the problem is my snazzy ebike wouldn’t pull the deer on the sled up the hills. So after a not so fun mile LOOOOONG drag, I got to load him on the back of the Outback!!
First question….since it was an 8pt public land trophy…..how many points is that??
2nd question….do I get extra points for the pic on the Outback??

Got the shotgun sight in today, was off 2 clicks to the right but should be set for dead hold from 0-130 yards. Seen alot of nice bucks on here and doubt I'll compare but we'll see.

nicely done! that buck's worth 13 contest points (5+ antler points), just make sure you post it in the entry thread if you didn't already.

you all are reinforcing that i'm the newbie around here, some nice deer going down! I'm headed out again fora half day on saturday (afternoon/evening), hoping to contribute to the contest and my freezer. i WILL be only walking in 1/2 mile tops, to where ive seen a few forkhorns and does. no point continuing these super long hikes and seeing nothing, if i see deer closer to the car. i just need to keep repeating that to myself so i actually do it on saturday.

Congrats on the buck @Texar, I definitely give you style points for the Outback pic.

I’m headed north to Kentucky this morning for 10 days, hunting a new to me public area so I’ll spend the first couple stays scouting trying to find some concentrated deer activity.

Got my car all packed for the firearm opener. Plan is to wake up extra early, and be the first person to the parking lot. I’m sure it’ll be a pumpkin patch, so I want to be the first pumpkin in and shine my light at all the others. It’ll be a brown and down kind of hunt.

Got a fancy Merino wool undershirt as a gift -250 weight, looking forward to trying it out tomorrow though I'm guessing low 50s will be too warm for it. In other news, man I need a haircut lol

I had a pretty good day a lot of deer movement but not the right deer…

First sit was at the newer property where I shot my doe. Hung over the small grown up old hay field… saw a bunch of deer just not in shooting distance… most crossed an open current hay field and cut into a corner… one of those happened to be a shooter buck.. lessons learned now I know a better place to set up..

Wind shifted at 10 so I crossed the road. Got up on a ridge and got down wind of bedding on a heavily used trail.. sat from 11-2 had 3 bucks come bye cruising nose to the ground… one decent 8 and two dinks…

Night set 3-dark was at the farm I’ve hunted for most of my life… I’ve had a shooter on camera the last two evenings in daylight… wind was iffy.. got set up… they were combining corn as I was setting up thought it would shape up to be a good evening.. wind was swirling saw 2 dinks, one unknown way back in the woods and 8 does… not sure if the combine running hurt me or not..

I’m down to 6 days of rutcation left felling optimistic as I’m seeing deer and not getting busted or winded… Ive passed a lot of 100”-120” bucks… hoping sooner or later that pays off with a shooter…

Just a bunch of people this morning. No deer, and no one shot in close proximity. I was settled in 90 minutes before first light to beat the crowd, and still had 3 guys walk right under me. I’m grabbing my bow for the afternoon and hitting an archery only piece.

Saw my buck at 120 yards but on the wrong side of a thicket. 20 minutes later he found a doe and chased her to who knows where.

Wandered in for a hour looking for sign, so ended up walking further than planned, but bumped one out of some thick undergrowth and found some fresher sign in the area so I'm in a tree about 15 yards off the edge of the thick stuff with paths crisscrossing all around, hoping it comes back in a few hrs or something else comes through. Time will tell how much luck this newbie will have.

I think I'm coming around to the idea of getting some cameras. I need more help patterning deer than my once every few weekends trips can afford.

Wind isn’t cooperating with me today. I ended up not going to the archery property as a result. I’m up with my gun. Planned to hunt a little funnel that was connecting an island to the mainland, but upon arrival I found a heavy walking trail right through the connection point. Shifted slightly, and overlooking the edge of the swamp. I can’t say I’m excited about the spot, but at least I’m hunting.
