Tethrd One Stick Gen 3's - Season review so far

How much weight did you add?

1/8 oz....which is just barely enough with 7/64"....probably should've gone 3/16 or 1/4 oz which would've been enough to whip the sucker around with gusto and even knock out some teeth

a penny weighs right under 1/8 oz....so i taped one of those on the end of my rope and swung it and saw it would work

with 1/8" amsteel, i'd go 1/4 oz

I tried the sticks from the ground real quick this afternoon. Cons, They're a little "spongy", don't attach as tight to the tree as some of my other sticks and I could get a little noise from them while shifting my weight, but not terrible. I'm only 150lbs though, so I can only imagine how it feels for you heavier fellas! I generally use a stick and squirrel steps as my platform, so there is a little concern of noise.... but I might be able to make some adjustment there by solely using squirrel steps once at hunting height. Pros, They're light as heck! haha. I'm going to run them this fall and give them a fair chance. I've done so using Beast and EWO sticks, so now its One sticks turn. The only thing that gets me a little is the thought of a kickout...Although I know that could happen to any stick, I've always felt pretty good about my EWO and Beasts being stable. I'm such a weight saving snob, that I want them to work.

The final straw with my first pair of original 1 sticks came from the stick kicking out on a huge oak tree. As I climbed down and put my left foot down on the top step it kicked out. Luckily the tooth on the bottom got wedged into bark. Scared the hell out of me and listed them next day. There was no user error. I could not remove any more slack out of the line. Thats why I'm not convinced its the best stick attachment. Ill take the extra 10 seconds to do a truckers hitch every time

The same experience, see post 50.

I'm concerned on smooth bark hardwoods. On a telephone pole, which is the extreme version of smooth bark, the stick teeth don't sink in. I can stand on a stick or aider attached to a stick.....and when I step down I can use one finger and just pop it right off the telephone pole while the amsteel rope is still wrapped about the pole. It doesn't even resist this.

As far as attaching the sticks to the saddle while climbing, I found these to work really good. I hang all 3 sticks on the clip, then just pull them off and pull one off, then hang the other 2 back on the clip. The frame of the step fits perfectly in the clip.

I am a recent convert to the one sticks. The sticks I used previously were the original lone wolf 32" stick.
I added the 3 step GC-1 aider and use 3 one sticks and I can get higher than 4 full length sticks with a 17"
cable aider on the bottom stick. I reduced my load by 5 3/4 lbs. The one sticks are also faster to attach to
the tree, I used amsteel daisy chains previously. Their size and weight also make them so much easier to
transport and carry up and down the the tree. They also pack and unpack a lot faster too. I have been
carrying my setup while doing some scouting and doing some practice climbs to get my system down.
I'm looking forward to using them this fall.

So, I’ve been studying this thread as it progressed. Finally decided to make the leap and purchase 4.
The four pack is “out of stock”.
I guess I’m going with a three pack plus a single. Hope the don’t want double shipping.

Yes they will

There is no 4 pack. You have to buy 3 and a single. And they do charge double shipping.

I've never had them sag hardly at all after setting the stick. Tie in on, pull the stick down to lock it in place, and that's pretty much it. I'm probably rolling 225-230 fully dressed/geared up for mid season. I consider the Gen3s to lock on as tightly and snug as my Beast sticks.

I kind of agree. I would say the Beast Sticks lock to the tree a bit better. I do not think any sticks cling to a tree like Beast Sticks.
