Thoughts on Broadside Stands climbing platform???

My personal opinion is that we've already been down that trail. Unless you're hunting in a mature pine forrest where the trees are straight and the limbs are high the climber is ok, however, here in the coastal NC the trees in the bottom land are narley and allot of long leaf pine. Several other hardwood species are impossible to climb with a climber. Thats why I'm sticking with my Wild Edge steps, knaider/swaider, and my Bullman ring of steps. It's light weight and very packable. I wear my saddle in and have a small back pack I carry with my miscellaneous gear.

I looked at the stand and I watched the video. It really didn't look all that easy to climb with and it only goes up to an 18" tree. I think there are easier climbing options that cover larger trees especially for the money. It is small and light and would be useful in certain hunting environments but where I hunt, I need something that climbs larger trees.

The prices of saddle hunting gear has gone out the roof. A one stick set-up from two vendors I looked at started at 350-425.00. These saddle Hunter platforms are $350 and up. I know CNC milling equipment is very expensive, however, the cost for some is prohibitive. I like the simpler approach with WEI steps, knaider/swaider and a ring of steps. I’m considering a WEI Perch.

There is another one by pathfinder platforms looks a little more refined. I’m very interested in these I hope they can make it even better. The one thing I hate about saddle hunting is climbing I hate sticks and one stick and 2tc but that’s how it is and I deal with it cause I love the saddle…

Zero chance I can get the versa strap on! Lol. Cool idea for sure

I have built/converted myself a CNC milling machine and am going to make myself a one stick platform. I have it all designed and modeled up. I machined some aluminum steps for a ROS.

Most of the CNC made stands and platforms are done on a CNC plasma table or a CNC waterjet as it would be faster than a CNC milling machine and produce good enough dimensional accuracy for its purpose.

Some stands/platforms are made from cast aluminum, and they are just as high priced as the CNC machined 6061 aluminum stands. But you are right, a lot of the saddle hunting gear is high priced.

Jason;
Have you considered V steps. Wild Edge Inc. was the developer years back and now there are some imported copies. There are 3-4 attachment methods. I like the original rope with the loop knot by WEI. My philosophy is KISS (Keep it simple stupid).

I have not tried that the sticks are ok just not my favorite I get sweaty climbing up cause I have to have my bibs and jacket on before the climb it’s a pita to put a jacket on in the saddle.

Bibs are an absolute pain at height , but what’s the struggle with a jacket other than tucking it in? I mainly climb bolts /sticks. When 25/40deg I’m bibs & jacket & iwom below that. Bibs on at base of the tree vents unzipped everywhere & jacket strapped to my pack. I usually don’t put the jacket on for at least an hour if not more…..

I do the same with my fanatic bibs on at base unzipped and yea tucking it is a pain trying to stand up on my platform and undoing my saddle very unsafe as well so I can wrap it around the jacket as if I was on the ground. When I use a climber I don’t get near as hot and it’s super easy to put a jacket on in a stand. That’s where it ends though everything else I love about the saddle and it’s better on my back with the rods and bolts I have in my back…

They took everything I didn’t like about the hand climber and found a way to modify it into a two tether climbing system. I like the idea and wonder how it would be if you added something stiff inside the amsteel.

There is piano wire or something inside the Amsteel and heat shrink around it.

Personally I think they should have designed the cam over platform first to work on its own perfectly then modified that to climb with it. This was a swing and miss….

I’m just glad people are swinging. The fact that when watching the demo video they decided there was a better way to strap your feet in and added it into the middle of the video but didn’t reshoot it is a little concerning. It just seems like they got an ide and just put it on the market without using it much. I do realize they aren’t the only company to look like they brought something to market without much testing though.

Cool idea, I appreciate the innovations and love the premise. One issue for me is the 4 safety pins will be easy to lose. Dropping one in the dark is almost a guarantee. Also, will be difficult to secure with cold hands and more difficult with gloves. There has to be an easier way to secure the device to the tree. Maybe a carabineer and a Madrock would make it easier......
