If you're not using the stick as a platform at height, in my opinion the stick doesn't matter too much. Cam cleat is helpful but I have also one sticked with a beast sticks (button and daisy chain). It was not as easy as the cam cleat, but possibly quieter. The practice comes in with the rope management.

That said I'm an eastern woods outdoors fan, I use their one stick although I picked it up on here used and it's been great so far. I've been using it as my hunting height platform as well though.

I'd make the stick as light and least amount of moving parts as possible. We don't really have a purpose built budget one stick at the moment

Well there ya go lol.

I think it needs a verse button, cam cleat or attachment method towards the bottom. Not to use when climbing but to use on last move to keep stick rock solid. If enough side pressure is applied to stick with one attachment point the stick can pivot around that point. Two attachment point negate that.

I'd like to see deliberate thought on attaching an aider. Slots milled for 1" webbing, or Amsteel. I think the OOAL Big Bob has a clever solution for that.
Multiple attachment options for the oddballs who don't like cam cleats, or a built-in backup for a broken cam cleats mid-season.

Some thoughts to rope management, hooks or pegs to wind the cam cleats rope on to.

Some sort of provision for attaching to a pack or belt, like slots for the Game Plan / XOP clip straps. Or a Bow Spider sort of thing.

Ship it with a jumbo Gear Tie, or build it with an equivalent handle feature.

Epoxy nonskid on tread surfaces, with a polished radius in the middle for the climbing rope.

Spitballing here... Make it part of a system; attach it to your pack this way, and then attach your bow to it that way, and then in the tree these components are re-purposed as gear hangers, or something.

one with a light on it, like at the bottom inside the tube. hang stick, get gear right , turn it off. or use it as a beacon to find you tree if you had to leave it to track or get a buddy.
