Yes stealing someone’s intel from their trail cameras they worked hard to pay for is stealing, if you don’t own that camera and you mess with it in anyway you are a thief and a dirt bag.
I’ve had cameras stolen, camera chips cleared, SD cards stolen and expensive cameras shot into pieces by guns all on public.
How would you feel if someone found your wallet or phone in a public area and rummaged through it?
I’d feel pretty good if they did that to get it back to me…

I haven't seen many on public and the handful I have seen were perched over illegal bait piles. I will avoid getting my picture taken by them if at all possible. I consider the presence of a camera as a sign of hunting pressure and figure it into my thought process regarding hunts like I would a fixed stand.

I run a few on public but I go deep, like 3/4 mile minimum from a road and I cross water. They are cheap cameras, and I would not be at all surprised if one grew legs. If I leave them out and they get stolen, that is a possibility I factored into my decision to run them and leave them out. I count on people's laziness as the main deterrent to having them stolen. I also hide them really well. So well, in fact, I am pretty sure I have lost one, not that it got stolen, lol.

I'm solidly in the camp of not messing with anyone else's stuff in the woods. I generally try to avoid getting photographed if I see the camera in time. I sometimes will hang my hat temporarily over the camera from behind if I see it time so I can walk out in front of it to see what the attraction is for placing the camera there without getting photographed myself. My intent is not to disturb it but more to gain some intel without getting on camera. .

I try to stay off them if at all possible. Also have stopped using them all together personally. Hunting only public for me and a few years ago I had my cameras wiped clean except for the pics of the two jerks left smiling at me.

Do you consider it stealing if someone uploads the pictures but doesn’t edit or alter them in any way?

I was critical of someone who claimed to make fake scrapes and rubs to attract other hunters to poor areas.

However, I'm not against someone uploading a bunch of fake buck picks into a trail camera that is left in a poor area to fool folks that have no claim to those pictures.

I'd be ok with no trail cameras, but if they are allowed, I don't think folks should be messing with them if they don't own them.

Dan Infalt filmed himself making rubs with his beast stick to lure hunters away from areas....lol

Not gonna lie, that’s pretty lame. Obviously no one is perfect but that just not right. That’s literally wasting someone else hard ended time off in the woods. Kinda makes me wonder what else shady he does in the sense.

I’d rather someone look at my pics than steal my camera…. But I hang all of mine 10ft up in the tree now. That almost eliminates someone jacking with the camera.

I’ve looked at pics from another camera a few times, but usually I’m not anywhere near where another hunter would be, so I rarely see one. All I hunt is public.

I've checked a few cards. They have to:

A. Be in a place I'm interested in and think may hold deer. 99% of cameras I see don't fit that criteria and the owner just gets a pic of me goofing off.

B. Be a model I'm comfortable operating. I try to make sure it's taking pictures when I leave. I used to have to trouble shoot them a good bit for customers, so thats usually not an issue.

C. I have to have a reader with me. I usually don't.

I'd say I've checked 4-5 over more than a decade. Maybe half were enlightening.

The way i see it, if somebody checks my cameras, I'm cool with it. It means you're honest but also practical. Just don't steal it.

My buddy and I took time last summer to drag a kayak a mile back in the woods to a pond in an area that you first have to get to by boat. It's usually good for a few duck shoots. We hid the paddle and boat and 6 decoys to make life easier. 2nd hunt of the year I could tell the boat had been moved. Didn't bother me too much. You can see the pond on an aerial, it has ducks, it's too deep to wade, and there's a kayak there. I figured it was a community boat since I'd left it on public land

Last hunt we made the decoys were gone. Didn't surprise me...but...come on. Awesome little duck hole that's set up where all you need to bring is your gun and you gotta ruin a good thing. I guess I'm lucky they didn't shoot a hole in the boat to try and sour me on the spot.

No, they are illegal in my state but still see them. Must be southerners. I do walk in front of every camera I see and give them a thumbs up.

I’m not really being judgey, but it’s kinda creepy to look at someone’s pics. I try to stay away from any cams I see but even if I can’t avoid it or don’t see it, that thing isn’t mine which means whatever’s on it isn’t mine, including pics of me walking in front of it. That’s just public land hunting for you. That said, I do think leaving cams/gear on public land is a play-at-your-own-risk proposal. So I don’t play because I’m not willing to risk it. If I did, I’d use a python lock or lock box (and still expect people to screw with it). People are creepy, and it’s almost creepy by accident to put a trail cam where you might see people traffic. Again, it’s public land…grains of salt for everything.

It's just a camera, leave the thing alone. I wouldn't want someone touching my property so I do the same. I have found cameras on private property I hunt, which is totally fair game to do as one sees fit.
