Heater Body suit/ IWOM

That is pretty awesome. Any trouble or differences sliding out of it to shoot while you're in the saddle?

Could you post a few more close up pictures of your mods if you get a chance also?

I am thinking about a mod similar to yours for an iwom. I ordered a military surplus sleeping bag to fool around with my ideas first without throwing a ton of money out the window. I like how the iwom has arms over the HBS. My thought is to put in a slit on each side from under the armpit down all the way to the bottom and then put buttons or snaps on the slits. The IWOM could be put over my head and arms once I am already setup in the tree, the front portion pulled down under the bridge and the back down and around, then button or snap the sides closed. That way I can climb the tree with whatever method I want without sweating, and get all warm and cozy once I am at height.

Any thoughts guys?

That is cool, and your work looks so professional. I might actually do this mod. I dont like stepping into mine with my snow boots, they just seem to grab the material and of course put mud or snow into the suit. Mine also seems to be a bit "short" and this would effectively eliminate that. My feet never get cold, but a draw string on each leg to keep wind gust from going up would be nice.

The iwom already has slits at the sides. It is in the prefect place for the bridge to run through. I get set up in the tree then put the iwom on.

I went back to the beginning of the thread and reviewed your original write up and photos. The mod I am thinking of with slits would basically extend from the slit that you are using all the way to the bottom so that you could put it on once you are already in the tree and then seal up the bottoms around your bridge. I was also thinking about removing the bottom but they offer the stalker XT with the open bottom already. Now that you have used it more, how do you think the bottom will hold up standing on your steps? And what type of steps are you standing on? I would think screw ins would be harder on it than the wide ameristeps.

I'm assuming that you are running your linemans belt through the slits as well prior to hooking up your bridge?

I am assuming you are doing things the same as your first right up but I'm not sure because you said "I get set up in the tree then put the iwom on". From your first write up I thought you were wearing it like a parka and then dropping it once you are up. If you have changed anything let me know because I am seriously considering one.

Thanks!

I have about 60 hrs in it last year. That was on 6" bolts and ameristep. The bottom seems to be holding up well. As far as hooking up I get to hunting height tie me tree strap like I want it and hook to my bridge. I step into the iwom and ge it up over my shoulders. I then hook my linesman belt up. Unhook my bridge run it through the iwom and hook back to my tree strap.

Thanks, I follow you now. I could go up, hook up with the linemans belt and setup the tree strap, put the iwom over my head/shoulders, run the bridge through the slits and hook up, detach the lineman's belt and then drop the iwom down around my legs. I am still leaning toward the stalker version without the bottom but I'm gonna contact them to see what they think.

Thanks!

dwaters416, redsquirrel,

This is such a useful thread. Thank you. I've been following with interest. I hunt from natural ground blinds and the saddle, and I get cold easy. Tired of a thousand different layers. This might really keep things slick and simple.

dwaters416: do you feel like you can maneuver around the tree, turn for a shot behind you, etc.? Any trouble with bark on iwom noise?

redsquirrel: will you let us know where you land and what you think?

thanks!!

of course!

Moving around the tree is the only draw back using the iwom with the bottom in it. I can do it but I really try to anticipate where they will come from. As far as noise it does have some but I clean the bark on the tree up real good and it's good to go.

Guys I am sitting 25 ft up in my guidos web and my heater body suit. I had to make a few modifications to both but I got it working. First on the Web I got rid of the web tether and bridge and made my own out of rope carbines and prussic knots. Then I removed whale tail from the web and sit with my knees against the tree just like my tree saddle. Then on my h.b.s. I removed the feet so I can stand on my platform with my boots not the suit. Then I put 2 holes in suit where bridge goes through and hooks to web. I then pull the whole suit up over both the web and me. Then I zip up and I warm snug bug.

Been a couple yrs any updates on cold weather saddle hunting? Thinking on just getting a quality set of insulated bibs to be put on at the ground and jacket system after setup at hunting height. Thoughts, experiences? Thx

I'm gonna sell my XL heater body suit soon. Any takers?

Not trying to curve the thread from topic but before anyone buys a heater body suit they should check out the "Warmbag" Same price but twice as good. Have a look and you'll see why.
I have both and the warm bag is not as good as the heater body suit not even close it is very noisy and is hard to get out of. When it's very cold and makes a crackling sound.
